I'm searching for that tool that uses chalk to mark the rounds for bucking but can't remember what it is called.

Thanks
JT

There is alos the Mingo Marker - a wheel type.

IME, premarking a tree for bucking is pretty much a fail as any after marking any adjustments you make for crooks, limbs, bends etc., throws off all subsequent marks.

posted this before but i use an old arrow cut to 16". some day i'll figure out how to post a video of me cutting but it's simpler than it sounds. guess i'm pretty anal about it but that's how dad taught me and he's been cutting firewood for over 60 years.

Tape measure and sidewalk chalk- adjust marks for nasty sections for merchantable wood, otherwise just eyeball it.

From the tip of the rear handle to the forward most bar nut on most Stihl saws measures 16". Set it on the log, spy a spot and cut, next...

Yup, on my 261 from the very edge of the rear handle to where the felling spike mounts is right around 18". If cutting from the right end it's pretty easy to just swivel it on the spike and tear in.
