I thought this would be a good question to be on the exam.

To me it is a contextual thing. LOL, u r 2 funny! Has it's place, but in a professional conversation?

I have limited my colloquial and industry acronym and jargon lately. I recall Young Nick commenting on the diffidence between typing carrabiner vs. krab or 'biner. There was discussion on the PC nature of 'biner with immigrant crews and many did not like the English Krab.

then there were the countless newbee questions for clarification....

Emoticons and the occasional LOL are needed to show that we are not totally serious in a critique.

Mostly this IM/chat stuff makes it hard for me to read a post, and I'm trying to skim them to get the gist so I can read as many as possible.

I use this as an opportunity to maintain a polish on my communications skills. Be forewarned, I'm taking an English class this semester

My recollection of english classes is that none of them taught english after about the 8th grade. They all seemed to figure that you knew english, and they moved on to teaching "composition" and "expository writing". Advanced classes go into other stuff, but "English Grammar" doesn't seem to be a course I ever saw on the syllabus.

If you want to improve your english grammar and your understanding of english sentences, take a foreign language! THEN you will get grilled on the structures of two languages at the same time.

German is best for learning english. ........................ In My Opinion.
