Maul/Splitting axe ?

So the only difference is weight ?
Do they handle different tasks or are they for the same purpose ?
Meaning they both are just for spliting or can the splitting axe be used as an actual chopping axe also ?
A splitting axe is usually lighter and has less wedge shape, more universal for chopping and splitting.
A dedicated splitting maul is heavier, has a wider wedge(spreads wood open further) and doesn't work very well for chopping duties
