I'm looking to increase My bar length on My 036
any thoughts as to what one would consider
optimal. I currently run an 18" bar now
but need more length and I don't want to
buy "another" saw right now.
( I recently bought the ms 200t)

Thanx Night Owle

If your 036 is running and is tuned correctly, it should pull 20" in hard wood. Out here, we use them with a 24" regularly. It just depends on what you're cutting, and why you need the extra bar length. Are you just needing to reach, or are you needing to bury the bar in a stump?

Thanx for the info Jeff , this will be for
cutting Large stumps and trunks
white pine and such. I think I'll
go with 24" Bar

Thanx Jeff , I will go easy on the stumps..
most of my stuff here on the cape I can
do with the 18" bar (80%) of the time
But on ocassion theres the other 20% thats
a bit larger....

For that 20%, I guess you can get by with a 24", provided the chain is full skip - right Jeff??????:greenchainsaw:

...but it will not be optimal.:biggrinbounce2:

Hey you should definitely get the square ground chisel skiptooth. I'm sure you'll be ok. I run the 24" on my 390 and the 036 is more saw than the 390, and I run full comp chain on it..On the other hand I don't cut many big stumps or have the bar buried often,

I don't believe square chisel is a good option for stump cutting, ........:bang: :bang:

The biggest saw that we have at our company is a 360 and we have a 28 inch bar on it. We all complain about it being under powered, but it does the job.

Yeah thats true. In some cases. I guess it depends on how dirty the stumps are. Normally when I do cut a stump, its still standing and I try not to cut into the dirt. They usually are as clean as the rest of the tree. If these are dirty junky stumps some of you folks talk about then I agree you want semi chisel. You can also get semi chisel in skip sequence.
