Already have a stihl MS460, the crapsman is for small jobs and dirty jobs. The saw seems to be really screeming lately, just want to check the rpms.i would say about 200,000 rpm and then go buy a real saw
I was able to retune it without pulling the limiter caps. I set at 13,000 rpms, it four stroked at 12,900 rpms.

Thank you. Get yourself a good chain(not the non-kick back crap) and mod the muffler, it will seem even better for the $15.00!.Congratulations, and goodonya for not letting some of these guys get under your skin.
I have one that I bought at a yard sale for $15, and it gets some rough useage, and keeps on cuttin'

Well I did a few more mods to the muffler, cut a few holes in the baffle, and one more in the muffler case. I was able to increase the rpm to 13,100 and its still four stroking, but ran out of adjustment. I need to remove the limiter caps and see what happens. I also have a few mods in store for the carb and air filter cover. I realize its a cheap junk saw, but its still fun. My Stihl MS460 will get a few more mods next after its broke in slightly more.
Yes, maybe it now runs like it did when it was new?. Anyway it runs better. I'm trying to get some experience on this saw before I really tear into the MS460. After buying the MS460, I can't afford to buy a MS361 till next year, so I need the crapsman to last.Is this the same saw that you thought was getting tired after using up four chains?

No I left those the way they are. I put a 3/8 hole in the right upper side and out the front on the bottom. I also drilled out the baffle holes larger and added 4 holes on the other side of the baffle. I may drill the holes out to 7/16 after I pull the limiter caps.My 38cc poulan exhaust gasket needed trimming because the opening was too small. The next time I mod this style muffler I'm going to try drilling the baffle holes on the top down through the bottom. Did you open up the two small outlet louvres in the back?

Yes.Did you use the dimpled area in the bottom front for a outlet hole?
No I have not. I have thought about drilling small holes in the back of the cover and epoxying a screen on the inside to catch some of the dust/dirt/shavings. If I could get a Green Weinie or K&N type to fit, I would try that. Eventually I will raise the compression, one step at a time. I love to tinker with mechanical stuff, so this is fun!.Have you thought about making a screen type air filter instead of using the oiled foam type?
