Got my new Maxx grinder from Jeff Sikkema today. I'll put it to work tomorrow and offer an opinion.

This is the grinder where you can flip the head left or right and turn the chain around for left or right cutters, in other words no reversing motor, but you can still grind from outside in.

Been using ours alot!

So what do you guys think about these Maxx grinders any thoughts,I've been looking for a grinder for a while now and this one looks very good to me..

Later Rob.

It would like to get one, but I have a question. How sturdy/precise is the right left tilt mechanism?
also, How do you guys dress the rocks to provide the right profile? Is there a special tool or do you just use a standard wheel dresser?

I just use the rocks to shape my wheels.

left to right mechanism? its a pretty sturdy piece as a whole.

The right/left adjust is O.K.

I just use a 5/8 by 5/8 by 2 silicone carbide brick that comes with the unit to hand form the radius. It is easy.

If you use the right left tilt to gring from outside in as the machine is capable of, you need a pretty symetrical radius job as you are cutting with both side of the wheel. That takes a little getting used to when for years you have not paid much attention to the form of the right of the wheel.

Actually I tried one chain grinding both right and left cutters without changing over. It worked surprisingly well. You know, the chrome plating burr is all you get on the one side, and it falls off the first time thru the wood. I guess I relearned, "don't knock it till you have tried it".

Those grinders with the hydro clamp worry me. I dont like the idea of fluid power.
Jeff said he had a customer have one of the hydro units go bad.

Grinding a chain is easy but it isnt. Theres probably 6 people at work that used to do chains, they messed alot of them up. I am the only one that is even allowed to touch the grinders anymore.

Theres an art to it i guess.

Jim,
I agree in some cases that maybe true .
But look at it this way the maxx grinders have a cable I suppose you think that cable wont get stick or fray get full of grit and cause problems ???????
IMO it would be easer to add a bit of oil now and then as to replace cables.

In no way am I bad mouthing the maxx grinders just pointing out that their are pro's and con's to both

Well how dose it work ??

Nice and shiny Frank, nice edge to the cutter. Very pleased with the machine.A rep at a local abrasive company said they can import a very fine grit disk that will leave a really fine grind.
