Got a few gift cards for Christmas and am going to buy a grinder for doing chains.

Baileys has the maxx and the Oregon hydraulic clamp. The Oregon is a couple hundred more. Which is the better more user friendly unit? They have a sale 10 percent off right now ending Tuesday. So I’d like to get one of them. Unless you folks know of a vendor here that offers a better price. I have to pay tax from Baileys since I live in CA.

$150 on Amazon.

Have 1 and 2 Oregon grinders in the shop, used almost daily. Other than color and the power switch, it's the same.

this HTML class. Value is https://www.amazon.c

How do you do a link? It does the above when I paste it.

I wouldn't order from Bailey's even if they were the last shop on earth. Horrible customer service.

What is the brand and model i can’t open the link

*Your photo states 511AX (discontinued), but shows 520-120 - make sure you are getting the one that you want.*

i don’t understand. Has the 511ax been discontinued? And is that why the price is lower on the eBay ad compared to Bailey or are they different tools

511A was replaced by the 511AX which was replaced by the 520-120. All are good grinders.
511A had a cam locking vise. 511AX had a self-centering vise that some heavy users wore out faster. 520-120 went back to a cam vise that squeezes from both sides

Can't explain pricing. Some may be list price; some are heavily discounted.

But some of the eBay ads are confusing, showing one model and describing another. Some ads use the Oregon model numbers to sell clone grinders. Verify that you are getting the brand and model that you want.

wow that really helped. I had no idea and would have bought based on price. Thanks.m for the information.

Way back when I was researching grinders I looked at the hydraulic featured ones. I learned that when they are not used frequently the hydraulic ones can leak hydraulic fluid. It doesn't take much hydro fluid to start a fire when their is an ever present shower of sparks. Even one of the companies who made them didn't recommend them for infrequent use when I talked to their tech folks.

Baileys has pretty much become no different than the local ace hardware store. The people answering the phones have No knowledge of the products (saws or grinders) other than the scripted information provided.

I asked about a 372 saw and the guy told me that was his favorite saw out of the Husqvarna line. I followed up with “you own one?” He said no. I asked “you have used one?” He said no.

They can’t answer anything. Pretty disappointed so far

When I was looking at grinders, I liked the maxx better. But neither were in my budget at the time and i purchased the $100 timber turf Oregon knockoff. I hate the vice. It has the over-center cam and I can never get it to offer a decent amount on clamping force and stay centered. It also won’t do the reverse motor trick with the drill.

And as far as bailies is concerned. I only deal with them if I have to. They price gouge on common stuff like wedges, files, and so on. With there advertising campaign, there focus is on the weekend warrior that wants the pro toys and tools and it willing to pay more to get it.

Madsons is where I buy my stuff from now, great people to deal with, but they don’t sell maxx grinders.

We used to use them (had a vendor account, was through Woodland INT)

The main reason for my hatred to them is from about 2ish years ago.

I found out on here that they had a data breech. Well they had saved my credit/debit card into their system. I had never asked for this. We run cards here as well, we aren't allowed to even write down a card number, let alone store one on a computer than can go online!
My data was stolen and I ended up buying about $1800 worth of plane tickets and groceries in England!
It was only MONTHS after I found out on here that Bailey's let us know about it (remember, we were a vendor with them!)

We use Scotsco and Madsens now.
