Got a referral from my friends landscaping co. The other day. Neighbor to the house they were working asked if they'd do some work for her, and also asked if they knew someone who did trees. They said they had a great tree guy - me! Turns out its the mother of a girl I dated in highschool. She really liked me and thought I was cute and all and should marry her daughter blah blah blah.... Any way. It's a 40'~ 50' black spruce with a 30' spread at its base and the trunk is easily 32 @bh. Big tree lots of weight. It's near the house but if I limb it and cut & chuck it'll be no problem. Easy 1 full day with 3 guys working it. So far all my work this year has been either storm damage (which I'm getting pro at) or f&f discount. What would a large outfit bid this at? I have way low over head and like to pass on a few bucks in savings to HO if it means I can get the easy jobs like this. Not trying to be a hack but I'm thinking $800. Especially if I need to climb.
What do y'all think.

Sounds like half price.
Jeff

Well, sounds like I have a place to start. Thanks.

Anyone else?

I guess part of me is looking for an excuse to buy that 460...

When I do buy a new saw or any new piece of gear I usually wait until I have a specific need for it and try to cover the expense with the job at hand.

Can't go wrong with a 460 but that's gonna cost you around $1200 out the door.

This may be that job for me. I've got a local dealer who will get me out the door with a 460 with a 3/4 wrap and 28" bar for $950. Even if I bid this job a little higher, say 1200, I'll be real close after paying my buddies who own the landscaping to haul sticks. Probably $250 in labor. I need the saw for this job though. Maybe after I collect on two jobs from last week I'll go go shopping

Yeah, I misspoke. I paid close to $1200 for my 660 out the door. I bought a 441 about 5 years ago for around a grand out the door but I bought 2 bars with it. $950 sounds about right.

Think about it it. If all goes to plan, you are making $33 per man hour with a three man crew. That does not include anything but pay. Include gas, oil, dump, etc,, Hey, you call, I don't know the economy in your area.
Jeff

Dump is free here and only 10 minutes away. I foresee about 4 tanks of gas through the saws. I'm confident that with a reasonably early start we can do it in a day. I think that me plus two ground guys will be a good ratio of cutting to hauling. I gave the HO a rough range and said it could be more or less, depending on several factors like how much time I have to spend actually in the tree to get it away from the house.

Boot, I was going to suggest that you up it to around 12 or 14 so you could get that 46 and still pay your help and dump fees fuel etc, mabe you could get it the same day you do it and get a float on the pay, thats the only reason I have kept the one MC I have is situations like this I can go get a saw on the CC and then pay it off when the bill comes usually the next month, we did one sounds simmilar up the frying pan river and with the 1800 and the 77ft elevator had it done in 4 hrs with drive time I think Aspen billed the guy 1200 was right over the house but had a drop zone right behind it and chipped and left fire wood size logs and chips so we didnt have to bring a chipper truck, but that was 3 man crew with bad a$$ equip, so probably a whole day riging it out on trailers too,
Paul

So much for nursing school, to late now, its in your blood, same thing happened to me in the late 80's hit a good lick and droped out of college, told my self I was doing better than the proffesors $$ wise, but then again my Grandpa's last name was Wood , lol

Well sounds like it'll be a couple weeks before she's ready to get rid of it. We settled at $1000. I'm going saw shopping:)

Found a recently rebuilt 372xp for $500. Rebuilt by a husqy tech. Runs well and looks great. Not sure the year. Will a 372 run a 30" bar if it's used occasionally? It would be my stump/trunk saw and only used for the big cuts on each job. I found a 30" Carlton bar on baileys for $44. Any objections? Or do I hold out for the 460?

Grrr.

My 371 pulls 28" happly, cant see 30 being a problem accasionally.
