I suspect the 10 Series gear drive saws have a smaller bore, sprockets for the big old gear drive saws are 19/32" bore (I think, I am not anywhere that I can check it out right now).

I know a guy with a few spare 1/2" pitch sprockets that will fit the 890, but he's not cheap.

I think that the 890 sprocket is the same as the 5-10G, but not sure. I will check my ipls in the morning and see what I come up with.

Yes they are.

Bill

Thanks. The guy in Michigan can take any mac part number and cross reference it to see how many other part numbers are the same. That's how I got the .404 sprocket for the 5-10G. I gave him the 1/2 sprocket part number and he found me the .404 one.

I've been in Argentina for a week, got another week to go.

Weather here has been near perfect, up to 65 or 70 during the day and cooling down into the 40's and 50's at night. It rained just before I arrived last Sunday and has not rained again since.

I hope my wife is keeping the yard mowed in my absence.

She did send me a few pictures of what's arrived since I left:

Older son Jeff stopped by for lunch and she had him help get them out of the boxes, should be 4 each 1-70's, though one or two might be a 44A or Super 44A, seller could not be sure.

Mark.

We got 2" last night with a heck of a lot more headed in later this week. I cannot belive this. How many 100 year floods can we have in 15 years???

Bill

I think it will be 5 100 year events in the last 20 years.

Remember that includes last year's 1000 year event.

We should be good to go for about 5000 years after this unless...

Hey Stinkbait, any photo's of progress on the 5-10G? We'd like to see how it's going.

I haven't had time to work on it yet. Between taking online classes and working full time It might be a couple more weeks before I get to it. This past Saturday I took my dad's pm610 and cleaned it up like new. I also bought a spike, new air filter, new oiler button, and a new 20" mcculloch sprocket-nosed bar and chain. I done this to his saw as a father's day gift. He is going to be so surprised when he sees the pm610. I also ordered some new parts for the 5-10G. Everyone knows that I got a new sprocket, but I also bought and new carb kit, set of points, condensor, and air filter. Once I get it going I will be looking for a nice bar and chain. I hope I will get to it soon. Right now I have to tend to my Poulan 245A before I can get to the 5-10G. I found out that it is best to work on one saw at a time.

Up and Running!

Last night I rebuilt the carb, installed new fuel line, and installed new points and condensor. The saw ran great. I only had to make minor carb adjustments. I did get a chance to make a video of it running. Sorry for it being so dark in the video.

Also, I like to add that compression felt like it went up a considerable amount after getting some mix in the cylinder.

Here are some pictures of my 5-10G that I took last night. I put the 33" bar from my 1-60 on it with 1/2" chain. The biggest piece of wood I had was about 12"-14".

I put one of the chips on top of the gas tank so that yall could see how big they were. Who ever sharpened that chain did well.

Here is a video cutting. It took me a while to get the hang of cutting with this saw. You have to use the dogs a lot. Sounds really good too.

Does anyone know how warm the gearcase should get after a few cuts. I checked the oil level before cutting and it was full.

This saw would also be a good candidate for a reduced weight bar. The bar and chain weigh more than the saw.

I'll keep that in mind Calvin. Don't need it now, but I might later on.

I figured that I would post a more recent video of the 5-10G with it's new 24" roller-nose bar and .404 chisel chain. I switched the drive sprocket over to an 8-toothed .404.
