Lee - Truly amazing saw, a thing of beauty!!

I picked up something unique the other day, a Double Eagle 80 ice saw, never seen wood! From what I can tell, the original owner bought it to cut holes in the ice on Lake Winnebago for sturgeon spearing (which is another story), once a year and sold it to the guy I bought it from. He used it for a couple years and gave up spearing. They use grease on the chain so it don't make a mess in your hole, and the grind on it is crazy. The bar is in amazing shape, probably due to the scabbard they made for it, so it was never sitting on the concrete. Aside from the two holes they drilled in the clutch cover, and the area on the handle where they clamped the angle up to it, it's in amazing shape.

The threads seem to be buggered up on the body for the fan housing. M5 tap? Not sure how someone screws them up this bad. I can get two screws to grab the first two holes(not very well) but the last one an M5 won't even fit.

Should I drill all the holes and then run the tap? Or run the tap first? Or what else should I do?

Lee - you shame me every time I go out to the shop and see two partially completed 101 powered saws...

emf - neat find. The DE80 is not quite as unique as the PM8200 but it does have a number of peculiar features.

Ginger - IPL's describe those as M5, helicoil would be an easy fix.

Git em done Mark. I got two more 101's a B motor and an MC motor. Now to figure
out what I will do with them. Thinking of one in a stock 797 chassis. Haven't seen
one of those yet. Always see the 125 chassis.

Take the front plate off and add another carb. Running 2 carbs should give it all the air it needs. Also make a reed block for each carb and add boysen power reeds to each. Make an expansion chamber exhaust come out and turn back then curl under then forward and around the front of the engine going down and the stinger turning out the left side.

Fabbing a stuffer intake would be a chore and not really worth the effort.
But on the other hand if a stuffer with reeds and carb mount could be found
it looks like there is a little room there to make a curved intake and mount
a carb. I'm not sure if the super series fan shroud will clear the fuel tank as
well. But as we all know things can be changed and made to work.

Did the 1-41 ever come stock with a removable head??

The closed port in the exhaust is a giveaway. Quite a few of the 80 and 87 cc engines have all three ports opened but a few of the detuned models like the MAC15 and the early D-30/36 and 1-4X models only have two opened up.

Kart engines typically have one large open port, or two ports with a bridge in the center.
