I can't even get a hiccup out of this thing.Hi guys, picked up this 4-30A today. I probably paid too much but these don't show up around here often and other than the peeling paint, this one seems to be in relatively good, complete shape.
Someone want to give me a crash course in these saws? I know nothing about them and it is much different than anything else I've ever worked on. I was told it ran about a year ago, the fuel tank is empty and clean and does not stink of bad gas so there is hope lol.

Sounds pretty good Kevin! I'd say the 4-30A has automatic oiling(?)Anyone know what the difference is between the 4-30 and the 4-30A?

That would make sense but I would be very surprised if a saw from the 50s had automatic oiling.Sounds pretty good Kevin! I'd say the 4-30A has automatic oiling(?)
I tried my best to sharpen the old chipper chain and took it out and made a cut with it. I got it tuned pretty well but the chain is in bad shape. I don't have a proper file here for the big Ole 1/2 inch chain and have no idea what the rakers should be set at.https://youtube.com/shorts/uTrFhRIubn0?feature=shareHere she is.

1/4 " Oregon file and don't tip your hand, and stay at about 30°.I tried my best to sharpen the old chipper chain and took it out and made a cut with it. Anyone have a source for 1/2 inch chain? Or a way to convert this to .404??
Also need to figure out the primer if anyone has any info.

If you can get a dl count, I've got a decent used loop of 1/2 inch chain off of a Homelite I'd give you.I just ordered the proper file. do they even make a depth gauge that big? lol I am not holding out a lot of hope for this chain. it looks like it was used to cut rocks lol.
I will take a count and PM you. I can certainly shorten it if needed. If you can get a dl count, I've got a decent used loop of 1/2 inch chain off of a Homelite I'd give you.
I do see .404 spur gears pop up on EBay for them from time to time.I will take a count and PM you. I can certainly shorten it if needed.
