A good chunk of my collection is in the 5ci range, so It would nice to have something fit in there. I also quite like the look of their 33/35 series small gear drives, what is a fair price for one of those? There is a big swap meet local in june (like 2 acres of old automotive and tools, tons of saws), so I would like to have an idea of reasonable prices.

I wouldn't pay much for a 33 or 35. Mcculloch made
a gazzilion of them. You should be able to find one
for next to nothing. I would say 20.00 to 100.00
depending on condition.

I got a rough one you can have! Pay shipping

Mark, that makes three of us (Aaron, Kyle and myself) looking for a number so we can avoid OS seals. I hope you can help.

Kyle, looks like you may need to change your username to promac850. I'm glad the first one is still running. If you run across Jacob (ChainsawmanXX) tell him I'm going to repossess the SP81E, if he doesn't get it going soon.

Aaron, ditch the two part ignition and replace it with its replacement single unit. Let me know if I need to look for one for you.

I just can't see spending $25 plus (with shipping) on two 30-40 year old rubber seals. A generic alternative would be great. I'll bring the crank and old seals to the bearing place to see if I can get a match.

Will a one-piece solid state ignition from/for a PM610 bolt on and work here without modification (other than shortening the plug wire)? Can I use my same flywheel with it? I hope so. Otherwise, I'm stuck with repairing the plug wire insulation on this 2-piece ign system.

The chain came yesterday. That was fast. I'll order piston rings, crank seals (if I can't find a match for them locally), an impulse hose, and a fuel line next Tuesday. I believe the rest of the needed parts are coming from generous members.

I've used a pm610 coil on one before but not with the two piece ignition. I bet it would work but at worst you'd need a flywheel also.

Try it, you get lucky and it advances timing just perfectly.

Having not shipped a saw before, any idea how much it is to canada? Also how rough are we talking? Is this has spark and compression but looks bad rough? Or is it siezed solid, and missing a lot of parts rough?

IEL - Lee has given good advice for more collectible saws. I would say to look for a 1-40 or 1-50 Series saw (1-40, 1-41, etc.) or a 200 or 250. There were model 250 saws produced in Canada so they should be plentiful and cheap. All of those saws noted above are 80 cc or 4.9 In³, front tank models and none should be more than $50 to $100 for a good runner.

Aaron - The 600 Series electronic coil will work in place of the two piece ignition using the same flywheel. I made a test using a timing light to compare the two and the only real difference I saw was the later one piece coil has more advance built in to its circuitry. I am told that a point flywheel will not work with an electronic ignition but I have not tested that myself to prove it true or false. By the way, I'll be in Turlock next week, why don't you bring some saws down and we'll see if the folks at Blue Diamond will let us test them...

Aaron, I bought an 805 frankensaw that supposively ran (I didn't try it). It had the old 12 fin flywheel and an electronic coil. I replaced the crank and flywheel to the origninal configuration. As Mark said a 600 series coil will work. I thought I had a 24 fin flywheel but I must have given it to one of the boys.

I'm still working on the NOS bar. May just end up with a NOS bar and new chain combo. He'll need a spare chain. I'll leave the seller some good feedback on the first chain. Ron

Turlock is a bit of a drive, but it'd be fun to put a couple of my Macs to work on some almond and walnut trees.:D

I still need to sabotage that feed mill in P-town so you can get a work trip out here.

My recently acquired PM805 came with an 18 fin flywheel, well actually it only has 17 now but it started life with 18.

I have several good 24 fin flywheels in the attic on other electronic ignition saws, but did not see any other with 18 fins.

Best I can tell, points flywheels have 12 fins. I looked further and see that my SP81E has a 12 fin flywheel and does work with the electronic coil. I will have to compare a few 12 fin flywheels and see if they are alike or not, there are 6 or 8 different part numbers for variations (?) of 12 fin flywheels...

The Mac gods have smiled, on my quest for descent vintage saws. Hey, I'm not so picky, I'll look at anything, big small, old, new.
Here's a $50 CL grab, I was his first call. And he was an honorable guy who shielded other offers until we met. I bought it sight unseen.

New Mac

I Found this in an add for "parts saw".
It took an evening to get the points cleaned up, carby just cleaned, no kit required. Spark plug and fresh fuel. On this one I had to disable the decomp. as it was leaking pretty good. It came with an actual parts saw. Which is now disassembled and good parts are labeled and bagged.

I didn't pay attention to your location. It's not worth it. Hopefully you can find one locally

I did sell a super 33 in running condition for $150 one time. I was amazed at the price.
