There was a good bit of overlap when I first put the oversize rings in the bore, ring tension is good with the new rings of course.

The largest measurement I got was 2.1244" at the top, slightly smaller at the bottom.

I see what you mean about matching std. spec., albeit slightly over. I guess the edges on the bore gauges might make you measure a little under and the measurements are small so the difference ends up bigger than it seems. Some 10 thou rings would have been nice to try if available. Hopefully it all goes well and isn't too tight. Filing back rings that far makes me nervous with higher tension and a no-longer perfectly round ring, but you didn't have a lot of choice.
 
I run poulan 7700 rings in my 4000. 49.7mm for the 7700 and the 4000 is 49.149. Was advised this from the helpful people on the green thread. Works mint as. Has been run a heap in like 4 years. Often the main saw at times.

Similar thing with not much choice.

Really do love those 4000s. Sooo soo different to a 10 series.

If you can look at the bottom the model and serial number will be stamped on the crankcase. With the short, black AF cover and that early style fuel tank cover I would guess a 1-42, or similar model. The full wrap handle bar suggest a 1-52 etc. but they all had the long AF covers. The choke button with the latch indicates a Tillotson HL carburetor. 80cc, manual oiler.

I've been working on a Super 2-10 over the last few days.I got spark back on it the other day by cleaning the points.I removed the carb & tried a different carb I had on hand & it didn't work out too well.The throttle linkage was messed up on the carb end & I couldn't figure it out till today.Apparently someone had removed the butterfly on the throttle & put it back in with the butterfly tilted down; it needs to be tilted up.I removed the screw & put it back together the correct way & now it works the way it should.I'll try the carb again tomorrow with a crappy fuel line (brand new aftermarket) that I found on my work bench yesterday while looking for some 1-75 clutch parts.
 
The SDC2 carb was a bust,wouldn't hold pressure.While looking for another SDC2 or 3 I ended up finding another SDC65 (I'd wondered what happened to it) & I put it on the PM 10-10 & ended up with a runner! I think that was the 6th carb I put on that saw! A couple more odds n ends & it'll be finished.Go figure,I get it running after I bought the Tilly carb,Lol.It won't go to waste,I can put the Tilly carb on the Super 2-10.
 
Luckily Ed takes on the worst saws so we don't have to.
I think Mark & a few others can take credit for taking on the worst saws that needed repairs.I will admit that I've had a few challenges for just a novice.By far the worst saw that I revived was a Homelite XL-12.When I bought it from my brother about 3 1/2 yrs.ago,he was handling our old high school biology teacher's estate.The saw had been left in an old pile of well rotted manure & the clutch cover was eaten away.The chain was adhered to the bar & the bar was sprung open at the tip.The recoil was seized & the air box had a mouse nest in it.It took me 8 hrs.just to clean it.A few guys on another forum told me it was a lost cause & to just lift the fuel cap & slide a new saw under it.I ended up getting the saw running again.As I recall,it had around 145 psi.It needed a carb rebuild,new fuel line & filter,different clutch cover & bar & chain.Eventually I had to replace the "blue coil of death" that the saws were notorious for going bad.I did put a different recoil on it,but I got the original recoil apart & working just fine.There may be a fine line between dedication & stupidity,Lol.
 
I finished up on the PM 10-10 today with bar plates & a bar & chain.I have an oil leak somewhere & can't figure out where it is.If I let the saw sit in it's normal position it leaks quite a bit,but if I lay the saw on it's side the leak is minimal,only a few drops.The leak appears to be on the lower corner by the bar.

On an even sadder note,the Super 2-10 fired up after I put the Tilly carb on it for about 5-10 seconds & then died.It has great spark,but I think the compression tanked.I'll have to take a compression reading on it.I have rings for it,just need to find the time to tear it down & replace them.
