Super nice saw! Pardon my ignorance here, was the problem with the rope diameter, or material, or both?

Both. Polypropylene is not really a good choice for a starter rope, not as tough as nylon in this application and you could only get a few wraps on the starter pulley due to the large diameter.

Can anyone ID this saw? Its a bit down the road from me but if I knew what it was I might go for a drive.

Early 10-10, they had a right hand starter. The fuel tank upper half is unique to the 10-10.
