I have a old Massey 135 tractor and the generator has quit.
It is a AC. The brushes are pretty wore out but I don't think that is the immediate problem.
Does anyone know what I should have continiuity to?
With the armature out I have continuity throught the field windings, but not to the case. When I put the armature back in I have continuity to everything.
From the posts to the case, brushes armuture etc. Is this normal or do I have a shorted armature.
If I turn it with a cordless impact wrench I get about .6 volts.
I could replace it with a alternator but I will lose my tachometer as it runs off a gear on the back of the generator.
Any thoughts, I know almost nothing about generators.
