I am looking to buy some mid weight hikers for the up coming season (for tree climbing, OBV) but am having trouble finding any that are made in USA. I was all pumped up over a pair of Danners that I THOUGHT was USA made ..but..eheh..china. Some Danners are made in USA but apparently some aren't. I was checking out Salomon and was unable to figure out out where they are made (havent tried to hard). Asolo was recommended to me by a climber working at the Pitt expo and they look like a good choice but they are made in Romania, which is FAR better than china IMO but still not USA. I make my living off of other Americans and want very much to keep my money with other Americans. I would suggest you other USA tree guys do the same. I realize sometimes its just not possible to buy USA but we gotta try harder, check labels! OK, enough ranting about the evil chinese empire. I wont even get into American corp greed. SO...can anybody point me towards a mid weight hiker thats good for tree climber and made in the USA?

I already realize my saddle was made in france and my saws in Germany.

It's great that you're trying to buy a USA manufactured product but I would opt for fit over where they're made. If you're going to have these on your feet for 10, 12 or 14 hours a day IMO comfort/features would be more important then a Made In USA label. I just purchased a pair of Red Wings and I have to say that they're the most comfortable boots that I've had in a long time. Of course they're Made in China.

No I don't own a pair of them, as they are made in America, and i try to only buy stuff made in Europe as that is where I live...

LOL...good for u! If I was gonna buy non-USA my second choice would goods from Norway. Does Norway export much? Canned fish maybe? Warm clothes?

Did I mention that I am alittle afraid of what those Limmers cost? Biggest problem with buying USA is cost. I dont mind paying some extra but if those babies are $300+ then IDK.... They arent as stylish as I like either

So you want to buy products made in America, but with prices as if they were made in China?!?

We export oil, fresh salmon and aluminum :)

No, I dont expect china prices or wish for them either. Americans cant work for $3 a day! Its just that my budget has limits. I owned a pair of wesco loggers and when they finally wore out I ended up buying a pair of Thorogoods for $200 which say made in USA so I guess they are. But if it came down to it I would bought new Wescos before any damn china boot. My point being that sometimes you can have it both ways. Fresh salmon....yum

try Hoffmans

Bailey's sells them.I haven't seen anything by Lowa or Asolo made in China either.I was looking at the outfitters the other day.Vasque is owned by Redwing now and made in China.Cabelas has some made by Mendle made in Germany.

Thx..I will check on those Hoffmans. Asolo are made in Romania and are a very good boot from what I have heard. Not sure about Lowa. Some of the Lowa boots I looked at on Amazon looked pretty sweet. I will check into Mendle also. My family tree goes back to Germany so that may be ok. Anything but china.

I don't know about weight when you're looking for a "Mid weight Hiker", but made in OOOSA and durable. LOL!!

The Official Corcoran and Matterhorn Footwear Website: Made in the USA

I hate china made boots myself, simply because they never fit quite right and variations on sizes are not uniform.
Buying another pair before the things are worn out, and just fell apart is another pet peeve...

Ain't had a pair of Matterhorns or Corcorans go bad on me yet, and they will re-sole and repair.

Good luck to ya!

Stay safe!

I have hoffmans and I believe they are made in the US. Also there is a company called Altama?.....they sell authentic military boots and other hiking boots which btw the old jungle boots make great tree climbing boots IMO. They are light, flexible, great grip, big heel, and moderate shank. The bad thing about them is they don't have steel toes and the drain holes let sand in the boots, but I normally put a dap of silicone over the drain holes. I think they are made in Georgia.....but not 100%.

I have 2 pairs of Mendle's. One non insulated and one has 400 grams. These boots do not need much break in. You put them on and they feel great. They use a cork insole and your foot gets inbedded after awhile of use. I would highly recommend these boots. I have had mine for a year now but my brother wears his about every day, and has 3 years and going on his.

Coming from a production and competitive climber the Asolo Fugitive GTX are very well made and are comfortable. Remember the US is a decade behind Europe in any form arboriculture, so dont just look in the US for products. La sportiva and Scarpa also make great shoes and boots for climbing. Try an approach shoe for pruning and rope access work.

Thx Mr. Sanborn!
