I am mostly a lurker on this site, that wants a chainsaw and/or bandmill. However, once in a while I freehand mill with a chainsaw and then go to my bandsaw, usually for turning stock and bowl blanks. However, after a firewood cutter left this huge ash crotch behind, I had to mill it up. So, I split it with the chainsaw and then cut it to size for the bandsaw (14" grizzly with 12" resaw capacity). Some 4/4 and the rest 8/4, I can resaw after it dries and isn't such a wrestling match at the bandsaw.
The photo doesn't do it justice as I waxed the ends and any areas that looked like they may check. The other photo is of some white oak crotch that I bought at a sawmill for a few dollars(always pays to go directly to the mill and check out the "odds and ends"). I will find a use for it, sometime
The blanket chest photo is from some previous green ash crotch that I milled (the front panels).
