I've always run 42-45:1 in my Stihl and Husky saws(not the recommended 50:1), 92 or 93 octane .I've never had plug problems. The Husky mechanic said that some smaller saws can't run this mix, they will foul the plugs. Stihl brand oil. What ratios do others use??

Thanks...

Man, I hate to sound harsh, but this has been beat to death here. no less than 5 times a year for 4-5 years.
click search and type mix ratios, mark show threads, and hit search
theres more there than you ever wanted to know.

 Darn it Ralph...we were all looking forward to another 500 post thread with all the usual arguments and no real consensus. Well, maybe not all of us. Well, maybe not really all that many of us. Well, maybe not hardly anybody at all. Thanks Ralph.

I always run 6:1 for optimum protection. And I've never been bothered by misquitoes. :hmm3grin2orange:

Is that 6 parts gas to 1 part oil or the other way around? I'm looking for a way kill bugs here too.

Mark,

As you can tell, everyone's sarcasm is directly related to another "beat to death" horse of a topic.

I have a few sarcastic comments myself, but I'll be the gentile one here. As far as mix ratios and oil mixes themselves, your search will find tons of info. People have their own opinions on what is correct. Stihl, Husky, Dolmar, Echo, and so on have committed countless of hours of research and development towards oil formulations and correct mix ratios for their respective saws. My advice, if your using a Stihl saw, run their mix (any of them) at the recommended ratio and be done with it. If you are overly concerned about damage to the saw, clean and polish it up and place it on the mantle. It is a tool, meant to be used, and as all mechanical devices, prone to failure at some point during its lifespan. But for now, run it and take care of it as instructed and it will last you a LONG time.

Mark,

If you are concerned about damage to the saw, clean and polish it up and place it on the mantle. It is a tool, meant to be worshipped, not a mere hacksaw. But for now, don't run it and dust it regularly as if it were made of stihl and it will last you a LONG time.

EXCELLENT POST!!!! I most heartily approve.:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

This mix oil and ratio thing is extremely critical. I use Racing 2T 40:1 with premium gasoline, 93 octane. I have had no problems at all. 35 years ago as a boy, I played around with a lot of 2-stroke engines from maytag washing machine engines to small motorcycles. Back then I used whatever gasoline was in the farm tank and whatever motor oil was in the 50 gallon drum. I mixed at a ratio of a lot:a little. Well. . . . believe it or not, I never had any problems then either, with the exception of a couple of fouled plugs over the years.

My two cents, keep doing what you are doing.
