I'm having idle problems on my new ms250. I looked down those 3 holes to the adjust needles and was surprised to see a conventional slotted head screw. I expected to see some kind of tamper proof thing. However, putting a screwdriver in there they don't budge at all. Are they loctited in place?

They are supposed to move freely, anything is possible if you bought it used. Can u see any loctite around base of screws?

No its new. I was wanting to avoid a trip back to the dealer for warranty service since it seems like such an obvious tweak that's needed. It it common for them to use a simple slotted head screw? Its difficult to so see down into that hole to see if loctite is splashed around.

Might be best if you call the dealer and ask them about the screws and needing some fine tuning done.

It's a crap shoot when it comers to dealers and what they will or won't do if they somehow find out the customer messed with the mixture screws. Some can and will get down right nasty about it and write you off.

Wouldn't surprise me either if Stihl came out with a specialized screwdriver to use on those screws to keep the consumers from doing it themselves.

You absolutely positive the screw heads have a standard slot?

No I'm not absolutely sure its slotted since I'm looking down a black rubber boot thing plus I didn't try extra hard to turn it for the reason you mentioned. Only way I could see down in there was shining a bright LED flashlight down the hole. It could be that there is some kind of mechanical lock in there that I can't see. I'm sure not going to take it all apart to find out.

Find a stihl sticky thread, theres alot of ppl that work at dealers on here that wont be afraid to tell whats goin on with it

Thank you Mr Fisher. I'm glad I didn't try too hard to turn those screws. So its off to the shop I go. Now I wonder if they will really replace the carb like he said rather than make a small adjustment.

You might want to think about:
If you mess around with the saw and the dealer notices such, your warranty is voided and rightfully so.
and
the tweak is not so obivious now and if the saw leans out and quits due to something else being the cause you will get the blame. Warranty is a blame game when the dealers start looking for something that MIGHT HAVE voided a warranty.

When something of mine is under warranty I don't mess around around with it unless I accept the obivious fact that I will now be the non warranty owner.

I would say take it back, let them take the risk of breaking off an adjustment screw.

Right: If it's still in warranty and the carb actually needs adjusted, and then later the saw for example runs lean due to a air leak that you were not aware of until later and scores a piston the obvious is it's now your fault and your baby, if the authorized service people see any sign of where someone has been monkeying around the warranty item.

I work on my own stuff also but when a item is under warranty, a man has to know when to back off or take full responsibility for his OWN actions.

and then again after you have voided a warranty, you get a little friendly card thru the mail few days later that the piece of eq has a recall notice, but you are SOL because you voided the warranty for the recall.:buttkick:
