Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried to keep an open mind as to the saw selection. I have been leaning toward the 359 based on price vs performance. The 361/357 were considered because of all the stellar recommendations from this site. The 359 also garners a good reputation with a lot of potential at a lesser price point. Sounds appropriate to turn an underachiever into an overachiever, my kind of deal.

Thanks for not turning this into a battle of brands, I appreciate it! I wanted opinions and suggestions and it was offered. What a deal.

IMO.....this is the way threads should go.

I admit that I take a hardline sometimes...........but it was nice that you seem to have found the info you wanted without a lot of brand bickering!!!

Keep us informed on your opinions of the saw once you get some time on it!!!

For what it's worth, I own none of the saw BTW, I would probably buy the 357, I like the wieght, I like the feel, it balances nice with a 20" bar and has oddles of power to make. The 361 "feels" heavy to me, the 359 "feels" awkard to me, the 357 "feels" good to me. I've never run any of them, but I have found feel means a lot to me!! Handle the saws, see how they balance, forget the damn numbers, you are going to have to run it al day, if it's not comfortabel who gives a crap about .2hp?

Hey, I'm curious as to how a 359 feels different from a 357?(I guess I have learned that the 357 weighs a few grams more). I could only get my hands on a 359 locally, and went on that feel when I ordered up the 357 from Amick's. Maybe it is the extra grams making it balance so well with a 20"?

I was wondering about that too - you beat me to it......

Regarding balance, the exact type of bar could make a difference, as well as the length.

The 357 felt shorter, more nimble to me. The 359 felt big and bulky! Cant really explain it. I looked at the 570 at the same time, it weighs less than the 390 I ended up buying, but "felt heavier" to me. Nextguy may say the oposite of me. It's personal prefferance, as I am pretty certain the 357 and 359 use the same crankcase.
Help any?

Far as I know they do, 357 has stuffers on the crank to reduce crank volume, this adds a little weight to the crank. Also I think is part of the reason the 359 does better modified compaired to the 357.

They are the same crankcase/chassis and should be the same size. I don't know if there is any apparent quality difference in fit and finish between the 2?
The 357 has a Mahle Cyl. and 359 is Husky brand, besides different bore.

It wasn't a quality issue at all, it was just a feel between the two saws. Might be the oposite for you? This is why I so strongly encourage pople to go with a dealer. Go in, pick up the saws, handle the saws, find the one that feels good in you're hands. Swing it like you are using it. This is so much more important than anything, YOU have to run it, you have to live with this saw, not me! We can make power gains, but if it doesn't feel right to start with it's a waste from the start! What good does a saw that sits in garage because you don't like running it do in the grand scheme of things? If it doesn't feel right from the start, it probably never will, no matter how much more power it has!

, it was just a feel between the two saws.

I ran a modded 359 and modded 357 a few days ago. If you closed your eyes you couldn't tell which saw you had. So how do they feel different?
Except for the green cap on the 359, they were carbon copies.

Might have just been mental, I don't know? One dealer had one, had to go to another dealer to see the other, neither dealer had both. Might have been all the difference right there? Like I said, the 570 was lighter but felt heavier than the 390.
