I just bought a moisture meter and noticed that its range is 5% to 40%. Its a cheap 4 pin model. Where can i find the ranges for firewood?

that should be the range for firewood 5-40%.....if you get it down to 20-25% you are much better than average...lumber for cabinets and furniture is about 6-8%, construction lumber from the lumberyard about 14-18%....

You want below 20% in the center of the split wood. Well seasoned should be around 15%. Anything above 20% is not fully seasoned. Green will usually test 45-50%.

Thanks forn the replys. I was always curious as to what i was burning. Now ill know for sure.

well, dont expect any exact accuracy , there is always a plus/minus thing involved in the numbers....like a 2000$ gauge probably down to +/-1%
and the cheaper the higher plus/minus , a 100$ expect at least +/-10-15When you do your check your wood, split an 4-5" piec e in the middle and check on svereral spots within an inch in the center like 10 times....a descent gauge should the show with in just a few %, even that though can be 5-15% off reality.
what you want from a cheaper gauge is consistancy, so you can compare with other wood pieces, maybe you have lumber yard around, go there and check it out......and you will learn yhat your gauge show 32% when the reality is 21%...........
