The wear will be determind by how you work in the tree. If you become prone to more dynamic moves where you let the line run fast, then you will be replacing it more often. Some guys get a few months some a few weeks. One buddy of mine gets a few months off tenex, where I can blow it in a day:rolleyes:

I can't help myself. I LOVE flying down out of a tree and slowing down just before my feet touch the ground. I can burn through a tres cord in one or two good descents when I'm feelin' froggy.

If I could be more conservative (and not have as much fun), I could probably get more than a couple days out of my tres cords. My last order was for over 100' and I've used or given away about half of it.

For connecting to the saddle, I have noticed a slight tendency for the knot in my lifeline to occassionally interfere with the friction hitch. Eye splicing my lifelines has helped a lot. Another thing I'm looking at is the Express stitched slings (Sherrill # 25264, 65 and 66) to extend the rope connection past the friction hitch. I bought a 4" and 6" but they are both too short to help much. Looks like a 9" would work. But for now it isn't a big deal and I just use the spliced eye or Dbl fisherman's knot and a biner.

As usual, I am mentally challenged when it comes to translating words to a picture. I'm trying to understand how the Distal hitch is physically connected to the saddle. Any help (pics?) you guys can provide would be great.

Heartland, this is how I connect to the harness.
The yellow webbing strap at the bottom is the connection
on the Butterfly harness, would be the D-ring on others
perhaps. If I were to let go of my hand holding the two
biners apart in that image, the Buntline hitch would interfer
a bit with the distel, I believe this is what Brian was talking about.
I haven't found this a big problem though, works fine as is.

hillbilly - you r the man :blob2:

Now it all makes sense. I can't thank you enough for the pic.

For me, there would be no issue wrt lifeline knot interfering with the distal hitch as I not only use a spliced eye, but also have two distinct connection points (i.e., no sliding D).

Wow, a picture is always worth a thousand words for me. Thanks again for taking the time to post the picture :D
