Please-could someone explain the easyest way to improve the power on a 372xp that someone could do themselves. The saw has a 24 inch bar, skip chain. I was also thinking of getting the "high top" aircleaner you know the round one. Would this also help? Basically this is a firewood saw. Thanks

You should have enough power as is, for that bar and chain.
Perhaps there is something wrong?
I have a hard time thinking you have too little power.

I agree, a 372 with a 24" skip chain should absolutely rip. Are you sure the carb is adjusted right?

Better question yet, is the chain sharp? I'd look there before anything else. a muffler mod wouldnt hurt any.

Thanks guys - check the obvios first. The saw does have enough power, I just want to cut faster without using my 394. The chain is razor sharp, carb dailed in by a good mechanic with a tack. I use other peoples saws at work, this is mine for firewood and the occasional side job. Oldsaw- please explain how to modify the muffler, years ago I used a 266xp that had been "Walkerized" that is souped up by a saw shop on Vancouver Island. The muffler had 2 short pipes welded to it, they stuck out at 45 degree angles from the saw. It had other internal modifications also I was told. This saw was very powerfull and sounded like a Harley.

You just answered you own question Clearance. I just use a dremel and remove a small portion of metal to improve the exhaust flow, allowing the saw to breathe better.

Clearance was my grandfathers name too.

Use an regular 3/8 non skip chain, faster then that I doubt you need.
I have tested 8 pin .325 17" bar and that cut realy fast.
