first time i heard about this saw was in a magazine this week ..i have the new stihl catalogue it's not in there do any of you guys have any exsperiance or knowledge of this saw..it looks a lot smaller than the ms200t

Its basically a large boat anchor. its underpowered, overwieght, and not well liked by most who have used one.

I haven't used one, but I have held one.  How about you, oldsaw-addict?  Be honest.  Have you done either?

Glen

Yep I have when I was about 14 or so, I didnt like them then, still dont, I'll take an echo CS340 or the MS200T model over an MS190/191T model any day of the week.

This story was told to me a employee of Stihl (direct from Germany). A saw shop (no I don't know which one) in Germany was broken into and relieved of its inventory save for the 019's which were all accounted for. The fact that the 019's were not touched suggested the thieves were professionals!

Oldsaw,

How old are you?

Glen,

I`ve got an 019T which is the same thing and I`ve got to agree with what Oldsaw has said, even if he is parroting what he`s heard. It`s also an extremely finicky saw to tune.

I also dislike the large swell in the top handle that seems to wear on the first knuckle of my thumb.

Russ

The 019's 191's aren't a ms200, but they get the job done. I ran them for years and my biggest complaint is how easy the handle mounts break. The metal clip for attaching a saw lanyard didn't hold up well either.

The saw could be called a casual tree trimmers saw if its that easy to break. I'll taske my favorite saws that are old tough and rugged before an 019T. I've never seen many in use here or anywhere else for that matter. If anyone ever tried to sell me the 019T or MS191T I dont want it, give me an MS200T and I might think about it.

Ha! your not kidding! Interesting though.. it comes alive with some porting and it cuts strong now better than a stock 200, but the case sucks big time. it's worth while to spend the extra bucks for a 200 for the durability.

Oldsaw,

Did you miss Russ's question ? I am wondering the same thing. From your profile it looks like you are 16.

As for the 019/190 I cannot comment as I have never ran one. I have ran the 200T but for only a very short period of time. The only thing I have heard about the 019/190 is basicaly what Jim and stihltech have already said. One of the local dealers claimed he would not sell them because he never wanted to have to work on one. As I said earlier I have never ran one. I really have no reason to use a top handle.

Bill

Simple reason why I've never run an 019/191, the specs: heavy, underpowered, crappy lanyard attachment point, maybe even worse than the 200T's.

Boat anchor about sums it up...

I'll sell you one cheap! I have one and don't like it but I don't use it enough anymore to justify buying a ms200. The durn thing is a boat anchor:rolleyes:

Well actually not a swell at all, it`s the junction of the top handle and half wrap. It`s a combination of the size of my hands and the way I hold it. I just know that I don`t care for it.

All this discussion about this little beast made me actually pick it up again this morning for the first time in a long time.

I have got a 190 for 16 years now and eccept I had to change the launcher pulley because the plastic was tired and a new pump membrane in the carb, I never changed anything. Ok I changed spark plug bar and chain, but that's all. I pruned many many trees and even cut very small ones even more. It still run perfectly after 16 years.

I’ve got a couple of MS190T saws, and out of all the Stihl gear I’ve owned, they are my least favourite units.
Both stopped oiling, and getting to the oil pump is a horrible job. I’ve worked in a couple of Stihl Shops, and I’m glad they weren’t around back then.
