I have a Stihl MS 260 that I've used for quite a few years. Happy with the saw, just wish I could cut faster. I use a 26 RS 74 .063 gauge chain. Any tips or suggestions to help this saw perform better?

You will probably have better luck if you ask a moderator to move this to the Homeowner Help sub-forum.

My suggestion would be that if you feel the saw is underperforming, most of the time it's a chain sharpening issue. But to really help, we may need more info. What wood do you cut? How much? If it's mostly hardwoods, you may need a little more saw, but a MS 260 should perform well with your full chisel chain on an 18" bar. Maybe you are expecting too much?

My 026 is my preferred saw, I use semi-chisel chain because I am frequently cutting in dirty wood. Almost all of my wood will be fairly soft, but my saw is also ported, and I have no trouble running a 25" bar. I never run it buried in a log, though, I like the 25" so I have to bend over less. I also run a 25" bar on my ported 036, and have an 044 and 066. If I need more muscle, I move to more saw. I use the 036 almost as much as the 026. When I was younger, the 044 was my only saw.
