bought a 462c a little while back off of a friend who only used it maybe 3 times on a large tree. but it continues to baffle me why the jug and piston look like they were dragged down the road behind a truck and ultimately leading to engine failure.. my question is this is there a manufacturers defect in the crank shaft that is throwing the alignment off inside the cylinder or am I doing something wrong here any help would be great thanks much appreciated.

Pictures would help. Most saws go through a bit of a bedding in process leaving polished areas on both the piston and cylinder, but not drastic scoring.

so for clarification, you got the saw already damaged, from possible poor fuel mix scoring, and want to know why a new saw would damage the piston ?

or have you since rebuilt it, and its done it again ?

and as others have said, put up some pics of the scoring.

WAY overthinking this.
Only used 3 times? How long did it sit with fuel in it? Does it have a vacuum or pressure leak?
Is the pulse hose pulled off the case barb? Check this first.
Is there corrosion in the carb? And water in the fuel?
The "I only ran it a few times" saws may present more issues than a well used saw. Saws are meant to be used, not sit.
