I’ve been kinda thinking coils maybe going out. If it’s throwing spark is this something I can test with an inline light or do I need to do an ohm test in it somehow? You’d think if it’s got a random short or is crapppng out when it gets feisty that you’d see the test light jump spark when the engine wants to die?

I really doubt you'd notice it being erratic by using a light. Since those modules are so common on Stihl saws why not go on ebay and just buy a spare, they're only a little over ten dollars. I suppose you've already checked your kill switch for shorting. If you haven't just unhook it and see if it runs better. You can turn it off by using the choke when you're done.

The fuel puddling is #1. Follow the adjustment instructions above. I set these low sides leaner than almost any other saw. Another test is with the saw idling and the chain brake on, push the nose off the bar against a piece of wood. If it stalls, recheck the wiring. You will find a worn spot on the switch wires and/or plug wire. Usuall near the upper antivibe mount.

I’ll dig though the kill switch wire, replaced the coil with a new one I had laying around still dies on one side. Since it did pass a pressure test it may be a wire grounding out off the coil.
