Hello,
Brand new member to the site, and wanted to post up some pictures of a muffler mod i did to my own personal MS261. I read through many threads on forums, including this one, prior to even attempting the work. First I removed the spark arrestor screen. Then roughly doubled the size of the factory exhaust after the location where the screen was.
I had initially planned on leaving it this way, but after doing more research into screen vs no screen, and the possibility of dust/chips/insects getting into the cylinder via exhaust port, I decided to make a new "screen". Using 16 GA stainless steel perforated sheet, 5/32" holes on 3/16" centers - i hand cut a piece and secured it outward of the newly enlarged exit. The new "screen" has a rough open area of 60%, which should be at between 33-50% better than stock.
Last picture is of some work I did for the winter's firewood, prior to any mod. 2-18" trunks, 36" overall. with my MS261 with 20" bar.
Comments, thoughts?
