been awhile but I have been reading and why has there not been a side-by-side comparison in real wood against old vs. new saw, to really see if the wieght was worth it?

no relationship how is that they are both the same size saw cc wise, and in the new book it says the MS441 is the powerful successor to our famous MS440, what does all that mean I know the weight is higher but it is still in the class of the MS440, so why not a heads up comparison of the 2, stock to stock, same operator and all, just to see if Stihl made a mistake!

HEY TREECO - Keep all the BS and rhetoric in the Prince thread, and give a few of the "other members" change to explore the issues intelligently..

Stilhboy440 - it is the successor (replacement) to the 440 - the entire saw product line gets changed out to meet EPA and other regulations (not all emission related, and some not even applicable to the USA, but the line is "worldwide") in the next two years. The 440 is still available for those that choose to buy it until end of 1st Q. 2007.

It weights more than the 440 (roughly the same as the 460). It cost less than the 460. It has slightly more power the the 440 and numerous improvements over the 440 in operator comfort and longevity.

In the wood - I don't have much run time on the 441 and they were brand new; it cuts just as fast as a 440 but is noticeably smoother due to the new suspension/antivibe system. A few others have reported it has a wider torque band giving it the edge in big wood.

everyone : let's keep this thread clean. We can beat up on each other and the world in that other thread!

Why not compare it to the lighter and more powerful 460?

Like I said, the 440 and the 441 are only related in the advertising literature.

Well lookie here. I'll be durn I was taught wrong all these years. I was taught BS only runs down hill. This is a milestone TreeCo, you can make it run uphill, sideways, and downhill. You should patent it before you use it all up. Wait a minute, I forget, with you thats impossible,:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

It seems that the negative post that keep repeating that the 441 is too heavy and that Stihl made a mistake are completely forgetting that the 441 is an E-Tec design. Not having to fuel as often is well worth the weight.

What are small hand-held engines, 25 - 30 years behind EPA Automobile engines?

Good point Kevin about the 441 being too heavy. I'm glad others see it too.

As it was clear that I was referring to the negative post that state it's too heavy, an intelligent man would have caught that.

There is a quality in people that find there niche in life, and it makes them stronger, and then there are those that think they found it but they get weaker.

What's next, eye sight and reading?

Have you any other symptoms Kevin?

I wouldn't put off getting help too long man it might be something serious.;)

The symptom I do have is a very low tolerance for stupidity, would for once you let a thread grow with out corrupting it?

This gentleman came in here to get some answers, I tried to help, others have offered there opinion that you should limit your rhetoric to the Prince thread, what give? Tired of getting your sap knocked in the dirt there?

Talk about rhetoric!

I do like your thought though that the extra weight is more than made up for by having to fuel up less. Tell that to a tree climber 50ft. up a spar.LOL

But of course the Top Handle design would be a pound lighter, glad your catching on, with the fuel saving idea!

And some say he woulden't catch on!

Bringing a 441 up 50' is like a cannon for checkers, but your attempt to sound arborist is duly noted.

Over 20 years as an arborist Shoe.

Just what do you think arborist use to block down large trunks?

You ought to stick with snorting horse farts.LOL

Naw, I would rather shake "horse fart" cage here today, it's raining.

With 3700 post and still so much too learn, if your toting a 440 into a tree, or could bring a 441 with a wider power-band for the same job, the latter being ounces more, other then moot, what is your point? That you blocked down trees for 20 years?

Or did you wish to mention the over-all quality of saw for that time frame, as there all lighter then saws years ago.

Back to that extra half pound killing ya, that's a cup of coffee.

And a BTW, 30 years ago I did a lot of climbing, working with my Dad's tree service, I was known as one hell of a climber, never have seen a branch that I couldn't cut with his 020 or old Mac's. A saw like the 441 then would have been sweet.

Now back to the thread.

Edit: spelling

I'll tell you what Lake, I'll consider giving Stihl a break if you guys that have a vested interested in selling Stihl saws lay off the sales promotion.

It just ain't right always talking up Stihl when it's your bread and butter. I realize the concept is a deep for you Lake and way over Thall's head but it's one you guys ought to consider.

Idiot... You think I've been selling? Give me a break. Pathetic lier.

Nuts

If this would of been a Husqvarna thread apost would of been a post ......... I dont understand why all the Stihl threads have to be all ++++ and when some one says something negative all hell breaks loose !!!!! AND THEN we have to attack the poster that said something negative for 6 pages. HA ..............You guys are nuts. :dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy:

I said 'spar'. That's a tree trunk in case you don't know. If you have never been up a tree and needed a saw larger than an 020 they you just haven't been around dude. I've made thousands of cuts on branches larger than an 020 can handle.

You better go back to sniffin.LOL

BTW, I use my lighter and more powerful Stihl MS460 just to stay on topic.

How dear you pull words from my post, I said 020 and old mac's, you biased codger!

You smell that?

But lets all clap for your "thousand cuts"!

No, Treeco is being beaten for lying about sending PMs (3 times, maybe 4), and disrupting what could have been a normal thread. There another thread for "play time". I could care less about negatives being posted.

Here is my take an a chainsaw like the 440 to the 441 OR the 372XP to the 575XP . The weight on the newer model saw went up per EPA and the older model is going to go away one day. Buy the older model until its not available any more and in the case of the 440 vs the 460 when the 440 goes away ............BUY THE 460 and when the 460 goes away ...........ect , ect...I dont think the 575XP or the MS441 are "home runs" but thats whats comming . As long as you can get the older model .............DO IT! As long as the older model chainsaw is out on the market the newer replacement model is going to be in the shadow. ( BTW Just because the Stihl MS441 is designed like a Husqvarna now, it dont make it a star ........it just gets them on the right track ! HAHAHAHAHhahahahah ) :sucks:

I have no vested interest in Stihl saws other than I like what they make......the latest being the 441. There is so much opinion from armchair 441 operators it is down right funny.

Why are we comparing the 441 to the 460? Because the weight is similar? I always thought the comparison began withsaws of the same displacement!

As you're unbiased (some will dispute that because you own one!), tell us all what you think of it.

and price... amongst other things. Why did you chose the 441 over 440 or 460?
