I have a 441 project. The front AV spring has ground down an area of the case...headed for the oil tank.

I am shopping for a case for this saw. For reasons other than the one I'm posting about. All of the cases I see for sale have similar grind marks.

I suspect running the saw with pooched front AV causes this. But, it seems common.

Anyone see this while running with good AV? Maybe it is the nature of these saws without the stiffer wrap AV springs?

So, I have my case, one on Chainsawr, two on ebay...all have the same damage.

I guess one might say, People with saws which end up being parted........

Anyway, maybe what I am asking: correctly-maintained, stock 1/2-wrap-front-AV, won't end up causing this?

Stihl makes a stiffer spring set for this saw which came with the full wrap version.

But, if the stock springs, but with new bushings, will not cause additional damage...I'll go that route.
