probably not ... its new, stock, and I declined spending 150.00 extra bones to have Madsens "power tune" it. Should I have? and if not can I do something to the saw simply, muffler augmenting, shave head, etc to boost power?

I like mine with nothing having been done to it but the ported exhaust casing installed (muffler front cover.)

Oh don't take me wrong, this saws my huny after runnig an old 266 for the last 10 years. just like most fellas I'd love it if she put out a little more!

I'm combing this site and a couple others looking for specifics, I realy want to learn this craft my self. as of yester day I had no clue what could be done? I'm now getting the pic! but how to do it? is there a good web addres to check out that is specific on this topic?

I have to tell you one thing. You WILL pay to learn! The terms will be time, money humiliation etc. Having more of some than the other can change the time frame. It is a whole lot easier to buy a fast saw than to spend the time and humiliation to learn to do it yourself. Depends on what turns your crank!

Luke, I guess we are all saw builders to a certain extent, being that we try to keep the saw from labouring against itself by relieving it of it's own inherant encumberances, such as restricted mufflers, dull chain etc. etc. Some are just more involved with it thats all. There is nothing Madsens can do to a worksaw that you can't.

I bought my first modded saw about 18 months. I am up to 10 right now, 2 of which I have done myself. I was under the impression that modding a saw required nothing more than a ported muffler and plugging the right port timing figures and tighteneing up the squish.

This is NOT the case, much much more goes into this.

I believe a good, real good, saw builder takes a saw and after looking at its design advantages and design shortcomings knows what to do to get around and take advantage of these designs ups and downs.
