Dilemma....Echo 70cc vs Clone 90cc saw. What would you do?

Far be it for me to tell others how to spend their money. I get it when people are trying to save a buck, especially when they dont use a saw professionally. But for me frustration does have a $ value. That $ amount is quantified by the level of frustration I have with a given product. With these "clone" saws, really knockoff saws it seems like you need to replace most moving or stress parts with OEM. I keep seeing these being recommended for homeowners. My thoughts are these would be terrible to recommend to a homeowner. Especially one that is not handy with working on things. I am old school. I believe and have lived by the "buy once cry once" philosophy when it comes to tools. I would rather go rent a good saw for occasional use then buy any of these chicom knockoffs.

My time is very valuable. My patience is a very low. My pride prevents me from buying a counterfeit product.
That, and the Chinese can go eff themselves.

I have several joncutters and neotecs. No serious trouble out of any of them.

Like has been said if having to do a little fiddling with them would drive you into a blind rage then take your chance with one of the main brands.
I say chance because even the expensive ones are not perfect.

I don't get the China hating BTW. They are just looking out for their interests just like we do.

I don't get the china loving- they're actively winning their cold war against us and people who live legally in the USA are helping them by buying their counterfeit junk.

Disagree. For someone that might use the saw once a year a clone would probably hold up for the lifetime of the saw user. For a professional or someone cutting 10 cords a year maybe not. Dropping $1,000 on something used 1hr a year is not a good financial decision.

Not sure if OP bought a saw yet.
I have played around with a couple China clone saws. My advise if you are going to get into clone saws, get one of the "PRO" Holzforma saws from farmertec. They come with a real Walbro carb, caber rings, Meteor piston and a better quality cylinder.
I bought 2 non pro saws (ms440 and 372xp) and both wouldn't run consistantly with the cheap carb that came on them.
Upgraded the carbs on both and they run pretty respectable.

What about Tesla and Elon Musk?
Over half the world Tesla production comes from the Shanghai China plant. Think his buddy Trump is going to hit Elon with the 50-60% tarriff he claims he will impose on Chinese products? Or maybe Elon will skate around it by selling his Chinese production to the rest of the world and selling the US customers cars made in other plants.
Given the credibility of our upcoming administration, I'm sure they will find away to make a profit themselves while screwing everyone else.

Typical. Find the information that fits your narrative and ignore the rest. 600,000 Teslas are made in California every year. 654,000 were sold in the US last year. This year they will probably make 650,000 in the US to satisfy those needs. Every Tesla for the US market is made in California. None are imported to the US from China

Well, it can be measured. Why do you think Echos cost less? Not because they are the equal of a husky or stihl.

They cost less because they don't contain a lot of advertising revenue and they are not as fashionable.

I just read the whole thread and gotta say I can't believe people even consider the clone junk when they're not truly poor! Do you wanna be able to easily start a saw and reliably cut wood (Echo/Shindaiwa, Makita/Dolmar, Stihl, Husqvarna/Johnsered) or spend a lot of time troubleshooting and adjusting just to get a POS clone running?!

The easy button is the Echo 7310p and do a muffler mod and tune. Or, find a NOS Makita 7900 and do MM and tune, or a clean used Makita/Dolmar 7900. Or a clean used Stihl or Husky in the same CC range. If a clean used saw doesn't already have a MM, do one and then tune it.

There are way too many well maintained, clean used pro saws on these forums to ever justify buying a clone.

I have just been reading this thread to see what is the final result and like you I wondered why it has to be new when it could be something vintage and built to last a lifetime. It's almost going to be treaded as disposable with just two big trees. Clean, used, older saw that will do the job and still be a pleasure to own and yet capable of sitting on the shelf ready for the next time. In fact you could buy the above cut the trees and resell it afterwards.
Zero cost if you can let go of it.

That's only the model 3 and Y ,the American market isn't even mentioned in the article?

Buy the new good saw!! Trust me when I say that the price of that saw will go up. If you use it sparingly and it's real clean and low hour in 10 years it will be worth more than you bought it for. Look what low hour older big saws are selling for used now. Look what they cost 10 or 12 years ago.

This part right here, this is what I was talking about. I’m guessing that 54% of Teslas are used in other areas of the world. Seems pretty logical to me. But then again, I can think for myself
