My dad passed in 1990 and left me his pioneer p28. The saw was made in 1980. Whats everyones opinion on this saw? I remember him buying timber by the semi load and cutting and splitting it all by himself. I was about 8 at the time and would ride our 3 wheeler around while he cut. Good memories.... The saw hasnt cut a single log since 1990. I can still go out in the garage and start his saw with no problem. Runs like a champ. I need to get a new air filter, chain and bar for it pronto. Hopefully by the end of the week I can get her going again and cut some wood in his memory. :greenchainsaw: :biggrinbounce2:

Is there anywhere online to purchase these things I need? Thanks, Chris

Mine is totally shot. I just called a local dealer who I called a couple years ago about a filter. He could get one at that time but now its a different story. Hes gonna call around for me and see what he can do. Im keepn my fingers crossed.... I got to thinkn, they must be good saws because my dad was not the easiest on his equipment and he cut ALOT of wood with that saw.

my dads pioneer

Pioneers are great running saws, its a shame parts are so hard to find now! I loved running my dads p42 so much as a kid I bought my own right out of high school. That was 12 years ago, and I just got his last year when he passed away. It was about then I discovered this site and began collecting more of them! Air filters can be had pretty cheap on ebay sometimes.

Thanks for your thoughts on these neat old saws ya'll. Do you guys know when they quit manufacturing pioneers? Were they pricey compared to other saws made at the time?

They quit making them in 1988 then Poulan Pro continued making some of the same saws basically rebadged with different numbers until 1992. Not sure about the pricing.

thanks for the info redwood.... I'd still love to know what a p28 cost in 1980.:help:

I would like to know how much a saw that was built with the quality and material that the P28 was made with would cost to produce and sell today. I think we would all be crying the poor boy blues, but I'm sure your dad thought he paid alot of money for it at the time when he bought it new back in 1980. Keep her going for your dads sake and enjoy. Good luck on your filter quest.
