I second the vote for Oregon 20LP for use in the clean stuff. I haven't done a side-by-side, but it is at least as fast as Stihl RS on my 026Pro and generally costs less. Stihl RM is probably the best choice for dirty wood.

I am a bit surprized that the 20LP is "as least as fast" as the RS, as someone else tested them on the 5100 some time ago, and found it to be the other way around - but anyway those are the ones I would have wanted to try.:D

- I agree about the RM for dirty wood.:biggrinbounce2:

anyone know what older Dolmar would compare to this saw? the reason i ask, i just picked up my first dolmar, a 114 powerhead only. i dont know what size bar to get for it. i may have a few bars laying around that fit it but ive only owned stihl and husky before this.

any help would be appreciated.

i checked the acres site btw, but i dont fully understand all the pitch types, etc.

5100 chain

I've time tested both .325/3/8s and it's virtually a dead heat, tested in 14in. red oak running fill chisel LG on 3/8 and LP on.325 same saw, switched bars. the .325 is a little smoother in the cut. IN my area is mainly hard wood thats cut so all my 5100s are set up with .325 unless customer ask for 3/8 whitch he's given the option. but it makes sense if you have other saws that all run 3/8 and want to run the same chain. it will pull 3/8s.

Ive got my 5100s for about 2 months now and have put at least 25 tanks of fuel through it. Running a 18" 3/8 chain combo my 372 has been sitting on the sidelines except for the bigger stuff. Felling storm damaged trees from septembers storms and brushing out the crowns of blown over trees, its good in wood to about 24". Bigger wood call in the Husky.
I have had the slow return to idle issue sinc e new and its not gotten any better. I did notice that the plug is wet and black. Since I've never adjusted the carb(breaking it in rich) I'll replace the plug and try to lean the hiand low a bit. i suspect excess fuel causing the run on. wILL LET YOU ALL KNOW
