Ive gotten a good deal from a local fire department for a used echo QV-8000 Its a fire/rescue saw. I know this may seem a lil weird but they were in phenominal shape hardly used, and run great!!! I got 2 of them for $500 together! According to echo the retail for around $2200 a piece or something like that. So heres my question: Can I switch out the bar? If so what should I get? I was thinking somewhere around a 24"(?) Just looking for some advice thanks. Heres a link to the saw:

the bar for the CS-8000 should fit directly. i have a CS8000 and i find it a good challenge for the stihl 064. you can pull up to a 32" bar well. the Echo does not have the RPM of a modern stihl or husky, but feels like more torque.

If that price is true, it most likely has something to do with the fact that they are specialized saws for resque use, and tell little about what they are worth as ordinary saws for wood cutting......

that is true. The reason I got that price is b/c thats what I offered for them. I am a member there and the saws were sitting in the storage room. Every x amount of years the FD has budgeted the replacement of certain types of equipment regardless of condition. Certain saws happen to fall into this budget. The people that were in charge of purchasing/selling equipment had no idea what they had cost and I didnt know either till I went online after my offer was accepted and looked it up. Im good friends w/ them which helped w/ the price and they were very happy to make some room in storage. Im not expecting this to be an amazing saw, like the title says it my first. I just couldnt pass up the deal of 2 of these for $500. The other one im selling to a friend of mine.

and while were on it im also looking for a much smaller saw, preferably a stihl. I do landscaping, removal of small trees without any exposures, cutting firewood, etc. My friend has a stihl 046 and I love it!!! He also has an 025(?)
which isnt bad either. Im looking for new or used with something in that range. Just an all around good saw. Any suggestions? Afain im not professional but I would like to have a range of saws to use. I really dont want to use this echo for everything. Thanks for the help!!

well I guess ill start this old thread up again with another question. Is there anything I should look out for with this saw? Any mods that could be done? Suggested bar lentghs or chains? Thanks again for the help guys!
