you guys with heated handles...

i have a 394xpg that doens't seem to heat up, but then again I just let it run at idle for about 5 minutes to check it.

how long does it take to warm the handles up? Do you have to run it at normal cutting speed to get it to warm up?

First heated handle here, and I think it might be defective

first of all, it doesnt help if you run it at idle... but lets say, 5 mins of limbing should be enough to warm it up, basicly more revs -> warmer handles... If its old saw it might be in need of clean up, as in pop off the flywheel and clean the surfaces...

Thanks, I just got it and ran it at idle to check the handle. It didn't seem to heat up after about 5 minutes of idling. Will check it later tonight when I head back to the wood pile.

Thanks

I got a 133sg and the heated handles still work, maybe the older saws has a different design !?!?
Yeah they were not sharing parts with Poulan back then

Took it to dealer today and he popped it open... the thin metal strap that flew out under the flywheel was the field of handle heaters... They also told me that they had got another one with same fault, thou it was 346xp... so, the saw runs well now but got no handle heating atm but hopefully he will get parts this week for it so i can get warm handles again...

So, in the end it wasnt a big fault... Im just amazed that they used a 2-3mm wide metal band for field inside flywheel...

Hopefully, I will be getting one next week. Any advice for preventing this from happening to mine? If there something that needs to be tightened or loctited. I think I just invented a new word.

I think it was just bad luck the 346xpg is the best selling saw around my part of the wood and I talked too my dealer yesterday and they never had one broke like that ,,,,

You could pop open the flywheel and see if the thin metal band still is there but that is only if you have heated handles since AFAIK non-heated model got flywheel without the metal band...

Cant be tightened thou since it was just press-fitted on the inside of flywheel...

Buck Futter, il see if i can pop it open on saturday when were going to woods and take some pics or something...

Allrighty, the saw seems to work fine without handle heaters too, sawed 2 tankfulls today with my dad... Hopefully il get the new flywheel next week...

and heres some pictures...

We will make barn for firewood out of those pines...

And these birches will be made into firewood...

Good pics blis. Just curious on how you plan on using the pines to build. They don't look big enough to be sawed into lumber, but I could be wrong.
I got my 346XPG yesterday. What a fun saw to run. My also new 441 didn't make it out of the case today. It'll get it's turn, though. Right now I'm working on building some trails, so mostly messing with smaller stuff. Next weekend I'll probably take the backhoe off and get the winch on, provided things stay cold.
Heated handles rock!!:blob2: After a few minutes I had to turn them off.

He said barn, but I guess it is about a wood-shed.....

...maybe they will just rip them in halves, as I don't see those becoming planks either.:yoyo: :yoyo:

Those will be used as they are, like in log houses... As sawtroll said, wood shed might be better word for it...

No matter what you call it,that looks pretty cool. Thanks. Happy new year.
I had to come back and print out the pic. I've got tons of trees that size that I need to thin, and I could use some sheds for one thing or another. I need a few deerstands, too. Sorry about the headache, just take it easy today.

I like that one!

How do you connect the logs at the corners???

sort of hard to explain, but the logs are carved a bit so that 1/3 of log fits into "hole" then they are nailed on joints...

That should give the general idea of it, but when making sheds you usually do lower joints so that there will be ~5-10cm space between logs (to allow airflow)...

takes around 80 logs for one shed (less or more, depends on height and woodsize) but usually around 17 logs per wall...

I know what you mean then - it is called "lafting" here, but I don't know the english word ......:)

"Notching logs together" is the closest I get.

Yup, there isnt really word for it in english, here we call it "salvaus" and "salvos" is the joint....
