Pick up my new edge saddle from Vermeer today. It sure looks sweet. I am starting a new job Wed. and I'm sure glad it came when it did. I will let you all know how it preforms Wed. I did hang in it from the tree in the front yard.. Here is a picture of my Daughter trying it on. Be good, her new husband is currently deployed in japan with the Marines.View attachment 188812

In the description it mentioned that it was kinda modeled after the petzl sequioa (spelling?) but made with more durable materials. I was gonna demo a sequioa but if this this holds up better I might just move on to the edge.

A friend of mine climbs with a sequioa, so I'm familiar with them, and just from what I know now the edge seems a little comfortabler,
thou maybe a little heavier. The edge seems more solid with more padding and back support then the sequioa. The edge also has a elastic waist support you velcro on before you buckle it up, Thats new to me. Don't know if I like it or not yet. It does look alot like the sequioa. beastmaster.

Today I did 4 pine removals, and used srt to get up into 3 pines to remove dead wood, all while using my new Edge saddle. All I can say is I never once thought of my saddle. It was by far the most comfortable I've ever used. If I had any thing negative to say about it, it would be the lack of snaps and equipment rings. But that falls under setting up your personal choices I guess. The bridge is really thick and my caribiners had a hard time snapping over it sometimes.
I haven't gaffed up that many trees in a long time and the back support was really nice. Didn't use gaffs on the trees I deadwooded (of course) But shot a line up high and SRT using the YO yo method. The bridge is nice and low and made it easy. It looks like it would be easy to hook up a over the shoulder croll set up too. All in all its a great belt. I'll go out on a limb here(pun intended)and say if I had to chose between a sequoia and the Edge, I'ed pick the edge, at a 100.00 cheaper. Hopes this helps any one on the edge(ha ha) to make up their mind. Beastmaster

the edge

I've always climbed using a weaver saddles (25 years). I ordered an Edge last week. How is the edge working out for you?

Edge..VS. Puma

How about the new puma saddle from weaver..i was lookign at both saddles and the Puma def a little mor old school but has the saw rings on both side and looks more functional although less padded..the edge also has quick release clips while the puma has old school slide through buckles which in the world of tree service might not get jambed or break as easy..also the pumas another 80 or 90 cheaper..

The Puma is from Buckingham. Funny that they would choose to name their new saddle after the same cat just as Weaver did with the Cougar. Looks nice but not much different than the Cougar.

I've been putting my edge throu its paces and I am still happy with it, maybe even more so. Yesterday I hung from a palm tree skinning it (spikeless)for over an hour and the leg straps make my right leg go numb, but how often do you hang from the end of a rope that long. Iv'e added a few clips and small caribeners for my acceseries, and I'm pretty content with it. beastmaster

Was your old saddle a seat saddle or leg straps? I gotta have a seat on mine. Old school. I could sit on my padded seat all day.
