So, I've been looking for a new saw and have been reading all the comments I can on this site. You've convinced me that I needed an MS 361 to complement my current 17 or so year old 021. So, I went shopping. Man were those things expensive.

I just hope when I put the oil and gas in it actually fires.
(pics in additional posts.)

Wild-

I'm very concerned about your health, safety, and welfare. As a result I'll allow you to ship that unfired saw to me to thoroughly test in my woods - free of charge! If it functions properly I'll return it to you. It might take several years of testing to wrinkle out all the kinks though.

Are you the guy who invented the "Wild Thing" chainsaw?

Are you saying it might be a keeper?

If I invented the "Wild Thing" chainsaw, I would not have had a problem spending the 600.00 plus on a new chainsaw and getting a warranty to boot.:hmm3grin2orange: Speaking of warranty. I can't find anywhere that mentions if the warranty of a Stihl transfers to another owner. I think I might have a month or two left if it does. The seller said he bought it in August or September 06. Stihl 1 year warranty, right? Anyone know about the registration process and subsequent warranty on a Stihl?

I have a buddy that took the bolt caps out of the muffler of his MS361 and swore to me he gained hp and chainspeed... and it was "louder"... I told him he was an idiot... LOL:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

When I showed him what they really were... he was quite embarrassed...

Gary

So, If I take the bolt caps off. I get dual exhaust? :hmm3grin2orange:

Man, I don't know I missed that on Craigs list as I scan the same Raleigh area you do as I'm next door in Louisburg. I'd most certainly have bought it. Oh well, such is life. Very nice fine though. :greenchainsaw:

They are there to stop sawdust going in the holes and catching on fire, and, so you have clean screw ends when you need to take off the muffler!

I just hope when I put the oil and gas in it actually fires. That would be a bummer. It sure looks good, but it don't run...

Well, no more doubt. I put a little gas in and a little oil in. Still don't know how they mix together in two seperate chambers.

After about the eighth or ninth pull, I heard that familiar choke rumble. Then I switched to fast idle and it cranked right up. Ran like a champ for a few minutes, then I cut it off. Refired immediately. OMG! I didn't even rev it up much, but could feel the power. :lifter:

I think it's gonna be a good saw. ;)

Oh, just joshin' on the fuel mix. :jester: Always 50:1 in my Stihl's.

Shew....you had me there for a minute.

6 porter muffler mod

Now that is funny :hmm3grin2orange: .

I have a stock 361 that I bought used that was only used for a month and a half that came with a muffler mod already. Its not pretty but it sure runs good stock opened up, compared to unmodded ones.
I guess since the 2 muffler bolt caps are off and it has the 1 stock port and 3 holes in the front like this pic of a 7900 I seen at a gtg. I guess I could call it a 6 porter. :biggrinbounce2:
Hmmmm wonder who does their muffler mods this way ;) .

Looks like an "I mean business" face on the front of the saw

I know who does and frankly dont care for doing them that way. The guy makes a kick azz saw though.

Yeah, know what you mean. I dont care much for it either , but not going to buy a muffler for a saw I dont use.
(but I did use the idea to cheaply mod some 4-5 mufflers last year for myself) all of them gone now though.
The 7900 in the pic did run good and couldn't complain about it at all for a woods saw. If it had had a good chain on it, I would have enjoyed the test ride even better. :)
