Definately ratchet strap it like some of these other guys have mentioned. Is there another tree nearby that you can tie in to?

Did a nasty poplar late fall that had a bad lean to it in soft ground. It had started to pull out of the ground a little. I tied into the other poplar right behind it as a precaution and everything went really well.

Just remember, as soon as you start dropping weight out of the tree, you are USUALLY taking some of the pressure off of it that may cause it to fail.

If this tree has you stressing that much, maybe you should just walk away from it? Especially if there isn't enough money on it. What's it really worth to you?

How long have you been climbing?
. 16 years. Everything went very smooth thanks for the imput

After all this you couldn't post one picture of the removal? I figure if you have 16 years of experience and it got you all worried it must have been pretty bad. Glad you took care of it without getting hurt.

I'm not what you would call computer literate but I'm working on it. Next time I promise pictures. I definitely was getting myself worked up over nothing. I'd have no business being up there if it didn't concern me

I did a nasty Red Oak like that a couple years back. I was only worried until I got some weight out. After that I swung some big honking chunks and had fun. Nice to hear a real climber posting around here.

I distributed ratchet strap and come along in strategical locations like these guys were telling you.

once the wife gets home can't leave the baby alone to run to my truck. i live in the ghetto still. ill upload some picks of an elm that we did that had dutch elm and was dead for a long long time you could pull hunks of heart wood out with your hand. i was tied into a crane tho so not super dangerous and i bombed it all. i never seen a dull chain go through a tree that fast tho i was setting ESPN hot saw times with my 372xp on that tree.
