I've been him-hawing around about getting a new saddle, done alot of searching on here. Was looking at the Buckingham Master deluxe, Glide II,and the Komet buffterfly. Decided on the Komet but on Sherrill's website it says Max. weight is 220 lbs. (witch is what i weight) So now i don't know if i should be looking into another saddle or not worry about it. I've heard alot of good things about the Komet. I'm not so much worried about weight as i am comfort. I like my Weaver double D, but i've been doing more climbing and the leg straps are killing me.

do yourself a favor and do not buy the glide. not so durable or comfortable. i just got the ergo (thanks boss!) and i think it is as comfortable as it gets for a work saddle. at the end of the day though, you're still hanging from a rope.

if the leg straps are killing you make sure to get the dragonfly instead of the butterfly.

i used the dragon fly for 2 yrs and i weigh 235. i put that saddle thru its paces too.

pinnacle was my first saddle. i'd pass on that one (i dont like the floating d rings personally). sorry o matic. lol.

if you are planning on using the saddle for years and years, it doesnt look like alot of these newer saddle will last that long but if its comfort you seek they will help.

yeah, but man.them prices really have this cheap bastard's attention lol.
Sure wish i could try one out.(I like the pinnacle myself.but non returnable :( )
olddirty,my first saddle was the bowline on a bite.;) LOL! (haha, not quite that old school)

The thing is though, these appear to be the older two section type.
I really like the looks of that delux version at wesspur.
the thing that get's me though,is I asked the guys at sherrill if the side D's only flip half way out.He said no,they flip all the way back.
MAN! I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sick and tired of having my saw lanyard and flip line tangle because of this same problem with my current basic weaver saddle.I need both on this side,as it's just so comfortable to me.
Just need to lock them D's somehow.
Is there a trick to doing this?
and,or,does anyone know if the deluxe version of the pinnacle has......what would you call it?.....half position fixed side D? or whatever lol.Just as long as the damn left D doesn't flip backwards into the left chainsaw ring making a tangled mess all the time grrrr.lol.

I have a glide II and have to admit, its not the most comfortable thing in the world. Better than the master that I used to climb on but, i've spent hours adjusting it and it just won't get comfortable. That being said, its more comfortable in my opinion than a traverse, pinnacle, versatile, deluxe, or weaver wideback, all of which i've tried.

No worries OD I just posted it because I thought he or someone else may find the price appealing. The Traverse for $150 with a bosun seat is a sweat deal I would prolly buy one if I wasnt a weee (big weee) bit to big for it

I am considering getting a new saddle also.
I do a lot of big removals. I have to carry an 026 or 046 3-4 hours.
Do the light weight belts dispearce the load around your hips well?

i wear my 372 all day. hangs well off my saddle. no complaints, it doesnt pull my saddle down at all.

petzl miniboss. they dont make it any more but i think wesspur might have a couple left.

I guess a woman with LOAD BEARING hips would make a good climber

The Traverse is a nice saddle.

i would only buy the deluxe though.

i have the Komet Butterfly now and i like it.i didn't think i would like the leg straps but i figured i would order and add the seat if not.i actually like the straps on this one.pretty comfy.i way 230 and have had no trouble.you have to understand, they are just trying to cover their asses with the weight rating.

if i had to do it again,i would buy the Ergovation.i still may by it before the year is over.

That's what i figured on the weight thing, but i guess i'm just cautious. The closest aborist dealer is about 2 hrs. south of me (Sherrill Tree) and i think it might be worth the drive to try a couple on, but will still prolly get the Komet.

I'm not recommending the glide 2 but want to say, I like mine. I do mostly pruning jobs which means I am in some weird positions at times it pinches my legs at times but doesn't take much to get comfortable. The bridge slides so easily makes for no problem to reposition.
It's slides down at times but so did my weaver dd. What's best is it holds me in the tree and I really don't know it's there. I knew the weaver dd was there. I don't think it's a saddle for everyone but it suits me to the T.

One nice thing about the B'fly it has a gear loop positioned in the MIDDLE of the back pad...so any saw you hang from it pulls evenly downward. I hang a 260 no problem. I added a bent gate crab on each hip to clip up the saw close when needed, maybe the B'fly 2 comes with them already, I'm still using an original.
I also stiched a set of braces onto my B'fly just to help support the weight overall when its a gear intensive day.

Hi, I was in the market for a new saddle, also. I ended up with a Euc Man from Sierra Moreno in Hagerstown, Md. Maybe not tooo far from you, TDunk. I don't have too much time in it yet, but so far it is comfortable and, needless to say very well made. This is not an inexpensive saddle, but I'm the one hanging from it, so the heck with price. I wanted a saddle with fixed D's, as I often use a second line on one D or the other to pull myself to a better position. The waist belt is removable from the back pad so more straps may be put on it or moved around. I like that part. My old saddle didn't have that. Hope this helps. Eljefe

What kind of pinnacle you using, oldirty? My pinnacles over the years have never had floating d's.

whatever you wanna call it. floating or whatever but i am talking about the d rings on the straps that will flop all around unless biner'd and under weight. the rings where you attach your line to.

Lol, you know i'm mostly screwing with you, oldirty. My terminology may be wrong though, i thought a floating d was on a bridge. Also, there's no need to be insulting, some guys like a pair of big old floppy double d's. :D

But anyway, to get serious and answer the op's question, most professional saddles these day will get the job done. This question is difficult because everyone has their own saddle preference. A saddle i may find comfortable, someone else may hate. But most saddles will do the job. For example, oldirty and i obviously disagree on saddles, but both of us can do the same job in our respective saddles with no problems and in comfort because each saddle fills whatever our specific needs are. He doesn't like the floppy d's, i have no problem with them because i like how they suspend me with a splittail. He likes a bridge, i've never been fond of them. And the list can go on. It all comes down to what saddle fits you as a climber best. You've got to try different saddles until you find the right one for you, not the right one for me, or someone else.
As for comfort, I've always thought the new tribes were very comfortable, but I know other guys that hate them.

As for the weight issue, i'm bigger than most climbers here, been 275 for the last decade. I've also tried most of the saddles on the market at one time or another and all of them will support me and my gear.

And if you are not sure if a saddle will support the weight you will carry on it, simply throw a pair of suspenders on it. I climb my pinnacles with suspenders every day, easier to carry a 395 off the shoulders than off the hips.

well i'm with oldirty, i'm not of big fan of those floppy double D's. :) That's another problem i have with my Weaver DD is even with a 260 my saddle droops.

saddle

anyone using the weaver cougar. I weigh about 230 . The weaver floating double d is so durable Im having a hard time trying to find another saddle that will last. but I would like a little more comfort. It seems like if you get comfort you lose durability. cougar is 200 at wespur.. floating double D is $165. cougar is also a replacable rope bridge. bridge rope is supposed to be rated for 13,000. That is what I was told over the phone
