let's talk

A head-on one to one talk is much better than the letter if you have time to talk. You learn more from a talk, not just about them but about yourself. New guys and the young guys need to practice their people skills and with this you develope a backbone to speak up aside from learning from your mistakes.

As to chairity work, I do it on occasion like the five cherry trees I took down for the borough I live in as a community service last year when they said there was no money in the budget for the work. The trees were a hazzard and ready to fall, the wood was given away to anyone that wanted firewood. Children play in the lot and the trees were on the borough's right-of-way. Do you want a tree to fall on a child while the borough finds the money in the buget or take the trees down and write it off a community service?

I have one friend who is disabled and I take him firewood or cut a tree for him but no others get that treatment.

The letter will have to do but the others said it right, a talk is better, it allows room to negotiate as you speak. The letter leaves no negotiating room which is a must in buisness deals. You need to leave room for alternatives to your preposal.

I just talked with the guy to make sure that he got my letter. Apparently he did, but he won't agree to it, he wants more work done for free before we can make any deals. So no deal, no work. Oh well. This is one mistake I shall not be making again. Maybe I will call up a "friend" and refer him to the guy, cause he has some kind of infatuation for the family

Or better yet take your own advice and be done with the situation, don't make it worse. You missed your chance to be tough and negotiate face to face, don't try and do it by proxy.

Your energy would be better spent finding different "friends". You seem to have this fixation with people that use you.
