Just to settle our curiosity can you show us which one is the right one?:) It's the same style correct?

i did find a pic of my saw on mikes site under the 040 listing, it's in black and white and shows both clutch side and recoil side views, i also belive the "boxed carb version" was only used on av models, when looking closely at the pic of my saw and then the pic of the 040, look closely at where the throttle plate/idle screw adjuster is located (just above the center of the clutch cover) not only is it a little different, but the top covers are also different, so are the clutch covers, and yes, the filter cover looks just like the one shown on the 041g

Not correct. The boxed carb version was used on the original 041 and maybe the 041G. I have never seen an 041G nor an 040 so I can't comment on either but I have three 041AV's, one 041FB and one 041 and the only one with the boxed carburetor is the 041.

Which means you have an original 041. The link I posted was for an 041FB. I should have posted a link to this cover which is for the original 041. My 041 has the same style cover as the 041G you pointed out.

thanks for the update phil, i've got a parts list coming for the standard 041/041 farmboss saws, but i have a parts list for the av models which show the "boxed" style used on them as well, most of my confusion on this air filter setup was do to a guy i talked with that gave me the what must be the wrong dementions on the air filter, the link you listed this time on the cover is the one i just bought, so it looks like there were two early versions of the 041, (boxed) and non boxed, but would still like to know which is the earlyist,

I think perhaps we are getting our boxes mixed up here:) When I say a boxed carburetor I am talking about this box. Where the carburetor itself is inside a plastic box and the filter sits on top. This style was used in the original 041. The 041AV and 041Fb use this style. The 041FB has a top filter cover that is very similar to the original 041 in that it covers the carburetor whereas the 041AV has a much smaller filter cover in order to accommodate the redesigned handle frame for the AV mounts.

Either way you got what you needed to get your saw back in action:)

we're on the same page as far as what we both mean on "boxed" with the carb sitting inside the box, but my av ipl shows this same box used as well on av models, must have been on early models

Does your IPL have any dates listed on it? I don't suppose you have a pdf copy that you could PM to me? Just for curiosity and to see if there are any other differences.

date on the ipl is from 1984, part # on th box is 1110 140 2810, i'm not that great on these computers, but when my son comes by next time i'll try to get you a copy, i've had this parts book from when the store i worked at closed several years ago, was surprised that the standard 041/041 farmboss was not in with the rest, which is why i just bought the only one i could find on ebay, as they do still show the parts used on the early versions as well. would like to find the original owners book for the saw, as they have the best shown breakdowns

So what is the actual differences between the 041 041g 041fb and 041av. I have a chance to get a 041 FB for 50 dollars and was curious about performance wise and collectability of them

041s were made for a very long time (late 60s into the 80s) so there are a great deal of variations, models and options. From a collectors standpoint, they are interesting because there are so many variations. Unless you have a really rare one however, they generally don't fetch big $$$ because there are a ton of them out there.

In a nutshell, the "041FB" you are inquiring about is likely an "041 farmboss", which was the non-antivibe version that was available for many years. Fairly common.

Try the search function, you will find hours of reading on these things.
