ok how many of you use winches that are atached to your chipper?what atre your oppinhions on there opperation an or usefulness?IM thinking of purchassing one for my brush bandit 254xp is it worth the timme it clams to save and the man power your oppinion is most apreciated.:monkey:

I don't have one on my bandit but have used them in the past. If you do a lot of heavy chipping or crane work they work great. We used to lower limbs and sometimes whole trees with the crane, cable the butts and lower whole limbs or trees into the chipper as the winch pulled them in. Works great to pull large limbs and trees to the chipper. If you are chipping mostly light stuff though you'll probably not get as much use out of it.

IMO if you only do very, very, light pruning work then you won't see a great deal of savings. If you do any removals, or heavier work... then you'll definately see the savings pretty much immediately. A lot of my work is light pruning, on high end properties... in those situations the winch can't be used. However when I do vista clearing work that thing is GREAT. Drop the tree, cut it to a size the machine can drag, wrap the cable around it and away it goes to the landing. I've used it in the past to pull over trees... but I'm not crazy about that idea... small trees, or ones where only a smaller amount of pressure is required... it's great.
