No boots, but I was stood up,part of the game, comes with the turf.Back in them days,Dutch Harbor wasnt xactly the sleepy lil aleutian fishing village it is now.
The ribs made for a VERY long season, and it was almost half over by then.Simple tasks the average person take for granted suddenly and quickly become all consuming quests. It could be something as easy as changing a T-shirt,or rolling over in bed.Heaven forbid you have the urge to sneeze in your sleep.
Theres always dope of course, but really time and slowing down are really the only things that helped from what I remember.

and once stuck between the cage of a bobcat and the seat on the backhoe attachment. ( Don't ask, - not proud of that one at all.)

sorry but i have to ask how that happend.

as for advice i cant help you on that. broke alot of bones from falling out of trees but never a rib. all i can say is keep taking those pain killers an get alot of rest.(good luck with the rest part)

There was a lockout that was supposed to be on the backhoe attachment but hadn't been retrofitted. I was moving the thing backwards and hit the hydraulics button a second time as I was looking out the side to check clearance. Backhoe came up and I was caught! Being of Scots extraction when I got the thing back down I went on with the job getting madder an madder. Next day I woke up looking like I was pregnant so I thought it was time to see the doctor!

I made lots of mistakes on this one

No help for rib troubles, learn to eat the pain and gobble ibuprofin like candy. I once spent an entire summer not letting my chainsaw run out of gas.Start it up once in the morning, very painful, then fuel up every 30 minutes with saw ideling. One other thing, once you seperate ribs they bother you for life, you're screwed bud LOL.

Help with Ribs!

Wrap in Tin Foil Heavy Foil.

Grill 350 deg F

20 min flip

20 min flip

3 twenty minutes open the foil and cover top with Sauce

60 minutes total = perfect Ribs.

Probably not what you wanted, but then it only hurts when you take a breath.

;-)

What do you do for ribs that were popped out of place? Got back from the dock and he put 3 ribs in front back where there supposed to be on the sturnem(sp). And 2 in the back where there supposed to be along the spine. Damn I've been through some stuff but this ranks right up there with the best of'um.

Other than the fantastic narcotics that they give you, what else can be done? The worst so far has been a sneezing fit. Anyone have any ideas what to do to be able to breathe deeper and be able to even just move a bit easier?

If you have been through something like this, you will know how appreciated any advise/ideas will be.

Thanks

Yep, I broke mine then came here . An IBA w/ a broke rib is FUN. Now repeat after me, you can't sneeze if ya got beer. Burping don't hurt as much.
God help you if you're constipated.

Don't go swimming. Don't go on bumpy roads. Don't wrassle a horse into a trailer. If they aren't any better in a couple of months, break or tear another body part and your ribs will feel normal again. I speak from experiences.

The important thing is getting good sleep. And being patient, which I am not.

Sleep? Sleeps a crutch.
Where's my cheesyfriedbaked pb cookies goodies Lents over?

Horses got mine, a couple times.

I was glad the lessor of the 2 was first so I knew what to expect.

The second time was an emergency room visit, really got bapped up that time.

The doctor was also a a sports medicine doctor that had a lot of ideas on how to tape.

One trick, stand next to a wall, when you pass the roll of bandage behind you, you can step into the wall slightly to hold the roll till you can get your other hand on it to continue a wrap.

Another was how to apply pressure with the bandage wraps, with that injury a nut-cup worked to get the pressure where my ribs needed it.

For any type of relief, the idea of using the nut-cup never had a joke in it, it but pressure on both sides of my sternum, allowing the ribs to ease to where they needed to be.

Try as much as you can to keep off the meds, relaxers are as important as pain killers, give it some time.

I had to be super tired to get to sleep, one roll over in the middle of the night would be extremely painful.

Work came to me sooner then I had thought, by keeping a straight back and stiff sides, bending from the knees, and putting a picketing hobble on the hoof I was working on, one hoof at a time, i could get a horse done. The challenge was the game, but i sure bought a lot of Lotto tickets during the process, hang in there.
