I could really use some wood chips to help fight the weeds under my trees. I live on 2 acres and am quickly being smothered by weeds.....Help! How about baked goods in trade?

Just up the road here in Seattle, all one needs to do is call about ANY local arborist - all are more than happy to drop anywhere from one load (3-7 yards) to a thousands of yards of chips, other wise they usually gotta pay to dump.

99.99% sure the situation in Portland is the same.

If you only want a few wheel barrows full it would not be worth an arborist stopping, so, try craigslist.

Thanks for your advice.... I called all the Arborists listed in our area last year and again this year. I need many truck loads but still haven't received any or even a call. Maybe I'll make visits in person.
Thanks
Molly

Yeah, try that. If you're any good looking Molly, I'm sure they will hook ya up with some chips no problem. :)

Wow -- all I did was tell an Evergreen driver doing a job down the block that I could take a few loads.....

within a month there were 6 outfits wanting to dump loads. Went on vacation for 2 weeks and came home and the back driveway was 6 ft deep from 150 ft back right out to the street - had to post a big sign and chain the gate shut to turn off the flow!!!

Smashed 2 wheelbarrows, 3 pole sections, one 8 ft werner FG ladder and maybe 15 rakes, and a pair of near new boots with my dozer pushing it all back - hardware buried in the chips, no way to see until squashed.
Figured the crews went from one job to another and forgot what was in the back before they blew in another couple yards of chips.

Depends on where you live. There are locations inaccessible enough that it would make dumping in other yards more profitable.

If they haven't dumped yet, it may mean that your location is not a good dump site for them.

And if some people are willing to pay like $20 or a six pack of beverage per load, maybe some others are buying the loads.

Thanks for the advice. I live outside of city limits so the problem might be my location..... However, I am not very far from Beaverton and I would gladly pay or supply 6 packs for wood chips. I live close to the intersection of Cornelius Pass and Skyline Blvd zip 97231 if anyone is interested :)

Try calling the power company to see if you can get a message to the line clearing tree services.

I have no idea what the number is. But I got about 8 loads myself that way, when we were in southern Oregon living out in the valley. Takes a while. But eventually they get around to every area.
