Hi there, I was wondering if its ok to use Pioneer grease to lube a Stihl clutch bearing on an 084. Is it of the same quality as Stihl Special Grease, or is Husky grease better? Would unsalted butter do the trick, as long as it isnt hydrogenated? Would a vegetable based lube be ok, such as Crisco, or some synthetic type tackifier?
Would bacon grease be alright?
Thanks in advance,
Gyro

I'm surprised you aren't already using Crisco on your saws, John. It's certainly the lubricant you're most experienced with, unless perhaps you feel more comfortable with KY.

KY is water based and will dissolve in the snow. Bacon grease will attract bears, as will the other food products (it's called baiting in the States). The Pioneer grease should work fine...amber juice will work in a pinch.

KY synthetic rules fisher as you know - check the label next time you reach for it:D much higher pain threshold for you when you use synthetic rather that dino KY.:p

Whale oil based grease is long lasting...
Just be careful not to hit a nail from the spotted owl sign.
