Well I bought a nearly new 2000 model 372xp and after about 4 tanks through it, it is starting to loosen up alittle. I like the non limiting coil on it. Did the later epa models have any type of cat muffler or anything, mine is just a empty box?

Far as as I know no cat yet. My 2006 2171 has an empty box. Pretty sure it's got the limiting coil, though.

Glad you like it brotha... Now when ya gonna step up to the 7900 eh???

Probably as soon as I can rationalize it. I was worried about dealer/parts, but now that I have another saw, that isn't as big of issue, is it?

Wonder how a modded 372 compared to a modded 7900? I guess EH is the guy to ask?

We hosted a birthday party for my MIL last night and I was cuttin' rounds in the dark to show my FIL my new toy, oops, I mean "work" saw. Is this the first stage of CCD?

No.

Remember when you registered for an account on this site?

That was the first stage.

Based on my sample size of one, I'd have to say I agree with you both. Stihl allegedly makes 3/8ths .058, but doesn't want to sell it! .......

That is the :angry2: truth, as I see it also!
:bang: :bang:

It is not a big deal though, just annoying!

I have not heard of 372s with cats, not even 2171s, but the newer ones do have a rev limited coil.

I Heard the 7900 doesn't have the potential of the 372. I think folks have figured out how to make the 372 purr. The 7900, and 5100S, have unconventional port timing, and are a little harder to modify and get gains out of.

no clue on the 7900 but the 5100s in stock form is a screamer. Just wondering if Denso plugs were the stock plugs in the 372 as that is what my 2000 model came with when I got it. 372 or 7900, I think any user would be all smiles, I know I am with my still stock 372:D

SB440,

You have no 440, but have a 372xp?

I don't know how your dealer is where your at. I got mine from Cutting Edge in Greenwich, NY. I ripped the starter cord out of it one time not using the decomp. Those guys had me back up and running in a day. I had to drive a couple hours to get it when I first bought the saw, but if you have dealers like that, that'll ship it to you overnight, what else could you ask for buddy... ;) :rockn:

'Bout the only thing would be a well established dealer network and distribution system. I'm sorry, I'm not convinced Dolmar is there yet. BTW, CE sounds like a terrific place to do business with.

Yeah I did have one and it was a screamer, it felt stronger than the 372 that I have now, but it was way broke in. It lives on actually, that Giftsofwood guy bought it and installed a used crank. Whoever had worked on it before had overtightened the flywheel nut and after many starts it broke of that end of the crank, I was really sad. It pulled a 28" bar many times in hard southern Red Oak. I am saw poor right now but would love to have another 440 or 441. I got the 372 because of all the hogwash talk I had heard about what they run like once modded and that is my intentions in a month or two. The screename will stay for me to remember my first saw by!
