I installed a new chain on my saw (Stihl MS-460, 32 inch bar, square ground full skip chain) and it cut to the right rather than straight down.
Now after a couple of sharpenings, the saw is cutting straight.
I did clean out the groove on the bar before installing the new chain. And there was quite a bit of play in the chain after doing this. If you press left/right on the cutters, they will twist left right maybe 3 or 4 mm (the groove in the bar is worn).
So I suspect that all the "crud" in the bar groove was holding the chain "straight" on the bar. Then when I cleaned out the groove, it allowed the chain a lot of play and so it no longer cut straight?
Perhaps I should not clean out the groove anymore with this bar?
(I know I need a new bar)
