I am fixin to buy a Husky 385
And I would like to buy online.
(my local dealer just won't move at all on price)
any suggestions for online dealers would be helpful too. I have looked at Baileys.

My question is,

Do Husqvarna saws come from the factory ready to CUT?
I mean put oil and gas in it and go?

Or does the carb need to be adjusted or any other preparation? (besides bar/chain assembly.)

thanks. and Happy Holidays. ;)

They need usually a bit of carb adjustment on any models. But if you are not familiar with carb adjustment, better have someone doing it for you.Aside that, there is no special adjustments to do.

Most saws will need an initial setup adjustment (which can vary based on elevation, relative air density, etc) and then another tweak or two as it breaks in during the first 10-12 tanks of fuel. Most internet dealers won't put fuel in a saw that is getting shipped out due to mail carrier's paranoia (had a UPS lady give me 30 minutes of grief one time trying to ship a used saw because 'she could smell gas' ).

Thanks for the replies.

like I said, I'd like to give the local dealer the biz, but he is sky high.
I need to check out a few more local dealers.

the last 385 i bought had a 28in bar and i paid 710.00 plus tax from my local dealer. so i guess alamia is a pretty good price with free shipping and no tax if your out of state.

but if the saw is not set up properly you will pay more in the end.

Yea I agree!!!! Mine was running really lean I had to cut of stop on H adjustment and richen it up. You are sometimes better off buying local and paying a bit more!!!! Forget warranty work if you are buying on-line!

Other than fuel and oil there isn't much to do. A couple things I do:

Check the oiler setting if it is adjustable. I want mine full open.
Check the chain tension. The few new saws I bought new had the tension down too tight IMO.

I got an interesting reply from Norwalk Power equipment..

Q : If I buy a saw from you, will it be ready to cut when I receive it?
Or will I need to adjust the carb mix?
385 xp w/24" bar
thank you,
John T.

A: Hello, the carb is preset from the factory, you will need to install bar & chain, fuel mix, and bar & chain oil.

i'm sorry but you are wrong..........i ran 2 385's and a 357 out of the box from baileys and all 3 had cooked top ends in under a year.

My 346XP ran fine out of the box, but you should still plan to go thru and adjust the oiler and fuel mixture. It's not rocket science - just follow the manual.

I'm getting a 385XPG, 28" bar, and two chains from my local dealer for $800, which I'm happy with. Keep in mind, this is a "G" with heated handles, so it runs about $50 more than the straight XP.

nope, back then i knew very little about saw's and adjusting carbs. so i just ran them the way i got them.........like i said i even had dealers pull them out of the box gas them up and hand them over. even when i questioned them, they said they were set up correctly from the factory. so i took my lumps and moved on.

i started to ask questions around here and got some people to help me out with setting up new saw's. then i bought a tach and started doing them myself.
i found most saw's out of the box are too lean and as they break in they are way above the max rpm.

Nothing like that hard backhand of experience to teach us how to maintain our saws, huh Ken? I know exactly what you mean.
