I’ve been working in the tree business for about 2.5 yrs years now. Ive always worked for a park but I joined a tree care company in December and my boss is willing to teach me how to climb. I have a few hrs under my belt. My buddy from my old job just gave me his old bet it will work for now but Id like to get my own. I was wonderin if any of the female tree cutters out there or whoever had any suggestions on what to buy. Thanks!

When your a new climber you often get nervous untill you get used to being in the tree. You have enough to consintrate on you dont need to worry about you butt hurting or your saddle pinching you. Get something with good padding. I use the Pennicle deluxe found on page 32 of the new sherrill catalog. It all boils down to what works for you. If you can, go to a dealer and try a few on.

2 ways to think about this.

Get an old school non advanced saddle like (weaver floating D, pinnacle, versatile, master) Or you could spend the money, and get something thats more advanced (glide lite, petzl sequoia, ergovation, treemotion, butterfly) These saddles all have floating rope bridges, and have leg straps instead of batton seats. They are more comfortable for climbing but not for just sitting around. I'd suggest trying to meet with people in your area who have different saddles and see if they'll let you try them out, I've let alot of people try my saddle, and have sat in about 10-15 saddles. They are all different, and everyone has their preference. If I was going to buy a saddle tomorrow I'd probably go between the treemotion and the ergovation.

I like my new Petzl Sequoia.

Spend the extra hundred bucks, you're worth it.
